If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Ex-Jet Jardel Admits Drug Use

NEWCASTLE Jets flop Mario Jardel has admitted to drug use during his career and is no example to youngsters...but he still wants to play.

Super Mario gave an interview in his native Brazil over the weekend, pouring out his heart and claiming that the most beautiful thing in the world is to recognise one’s mistakes.

The striker who failed to find either fitness or the net for Gary van Egmond’s men last season is now looking for a fresh challenge with a new club.

He was once one of world football’s top strikers and crashed in more than 160 goals for FC Porto in the nineties.

A move to Turkish giants Galatasary followed before he returned for a second, less successful spell in Portugal.

Jardel was released from Sporting before the 2003/4 season and has had spells at eight different clubs, most recently the Jets.

He told Globoesports: “It all started with bad friendships. Then came my divorce, depression and drugs.

“Today, I want to start over. I am training, but I am no example to any child.

“Don't do what I did, because it's no example, I am starting over and acknowledging my mistakes, I want to win from now on.

“I only consumed one drug, cocaine, but not while I was playing: I only took it during vacations.

“I am seeking a new club to reignite my career, because I have the quality and the potential.

“My biggest dream is to return to the fields with a big team.

“When I went to some smaller teams, how could I score if there were no players that could put the ball in my feet? It all got worse and the problems snowballed.

“I will only play again if it is for a big team, like Grmio or Vasco da Gama. I would like to return to one of these two clubs and prove that I can do it.”

Well I did see ASADA quite busy at halftime, in and out of the Newcastle dressing rooms, during the Semis, but by then Jardel had been released and presumed on 'holidays'.

I strongly doubt that he could have exerted enough self control to just use cocaine when 'off duty'.

Time for someone in the FFA or ASADA to answer the prickly question of why someone, who has previously admitted having problems with substance abuse, allowed to compete for a season and not get drug tested? They should have tested him straight off the airplane, and he should have been tested in and out of competition.

Remember, we only won the Premiership by 1 goal over Newcastle and if Jardel had netted two goals during his short stints on the field (which, given his past playing history, was quite conceivable), we would have been dudded by the druggie. :naughty:

The scum are quoted in the tele that they will not be using the junior marquee salary, meaning that they will find themselves not just 450k behind other clubs using service agrrements. 600k is 1/3 of the usual salaray cap. It is absurd they are shooting themselves in the foot constantly.

Its terrible that they have the worlds tightest millionare running the shop, because from what I hear, he is not short of coin, so he is just being a wanker.

Makes me smile :)

The same sponsors which have not been there for 3 seasons?

thomas is on the money with this one

there are plenty of people ready and willing to get involved in an a-league team but won't have a bar of it because of con and his credit record

also, con has rejected plenty of willing sponsors because of his own personal decisions

the company willing to pay for durante's service agreement was just one small example

there would be many things about the jets that would be better if con were not there. his bignoting of himself for pouring some $15 million is misleading - if he were not such a loon, he would have had no need to put anything like that amount of his money in.

don't forget all the tax dollars he got back from losses at the jets and the transfer money he received from nick carle and that $15 million figure is just a bunch of bullshit

If the A-League hopes to be seen as a professional sport, the Jets had better find a way of getting rid of Con, and quick. The A-League need all 8 clubs. It can't afford to have any unprofessional operators instigating collapses, scandals or corruption. If that sort of stuff gets into the media, it will come back to bite us all - it could well tarnish the overall image of the sport.

The last thing we need is to start looking like we're back in the old days again and the media could well put that sort of slant on a story, especially where Con is involved.

thats all true, surely one day con will wake up and think he has had enough of putting his own cash into the jets and then what happens then, do the jets go under and ffa create a new newcastle team or buy out his licence, either way its potentially dangerous so little wonder players are leaving in droves - there is little security and stability there

on another note, this little thread i started is now 11 pages and is still going - i guess we all love this situation they are in :D
