And welcome back to the wonderful world of Newcastlol  ;D

EXCLUSIVE: Exciting Ecuadorean striker Edmundo Zura is on a plane tonight bound for Newcastle where he is set to become the Jets' marquee player.

Im making the big call that whats-his-face wont work out for them.

Also read on 442 that Recoba was going to be the marquee. And below is one of the comments from one of the brain dead kids from the squadron...

"I wouldn't want Recoba, too old and he isnt what we need. I'll take a punt and say I'd rather this guy even though I don't know who he is.

This guy would have to be the best pedigree striker in the A-League (if we pull this one off). Go the mighty Jets!"

Hmm

Newcastle Jets Media Conference Marquee Player Announcement

The Newcastle Jets will host a media conference on Friday, 1 August 2008 at 1:30pm (AEST) to unveil the clubs latest prospective signing, Ecuadorian International striker Edmundo Salomon Zura de Jesus. Known simply as Edmundo Zura, the 24-year-old striker will undergo a standard medical assessment in Newcastle next Monday and, subject to the success of this process, will sign to become the Newcastle Jets Marquee player for the 2008/09 Hyundai A-League Season.

Capped 7 times at National Team level by Ecuador, Edmundo Zuras first selection for the National Team was in October 2006 in a Friendly against South American powerhouse Brazil. However it was the 2007 Pan-American Games that would boost Zuras profile and announce him as a big game player on the world stage as he captained the team and scored three goals en-route to Ecuadors only football title in the nations history.

In January of this year, the talented marksman moved from Sporting Club Imbabura and signed a 1-year deal with Ecuadors most popular club, Barcelona Sporting Club of Guayaquil. He is now poised to join the reigning Hyundai A-League Champions.

All media are invited to attend this media conference for a first hand glimpse of Edmundo Zura.

Event Details

Date: Friday, 1 August 2008

Time: 1:30pm (AEST)

Venue: Level 1, 854 Hunter St. Newcastle West

I can't think of any player I've seen with a better left foot from a dead ball than Recoba except for Maradonna.

Brilliant Footballer (bit lazy though) who would have been massive for the HAL.

Haven't scum learnt about buying players from DVD's doen't work?

I've said it before and I'll repeat it again, the overseas recruiting by HAL clubs has been abysmal and the scum are the worst offenders.

Right - and you are a part of the recruiting team at the Jets are you??  ::)
We have trialled numerous o/s players this off-season and sent most of them home because they havent worked - so tell me how has this been abysmal??
We signed Song at end of last season - I would rate him a success.
We have signed Jesper from the Danish league with a good record and has apparently impressed in training. GVE was openly saying a week ago he wasnt confident that Jesper would be signed as we couldnt get him cleared in time to play againt Adelaide to see how he would go - he would only have been signed if he looked the goods in training.
And we are looking at signing Zura as our marquee (he hasnt been signed yet, subject to a medical and FFA approval) who is young, tall, scores goals in the Ecuadorian league and is an international. Far cry from the marquee we had last season.
I would say that we have learnt a great deal from our past mistakes.
However Queensland have re-signed the A-Leagues biggest donkey today so it appears not every club is learning ;)
But go and stick the boot in as much as you want - I am quite satisfied at how we have been able to fill the holes in our squad. Now we just need another defender and we are complete.

I have been watching the Youtube of him and he looks the goods. Fit, tall, can hit a ball. Will be great for the Jets if they can keep him for the ACL too.
But.
Why would this guy qualify for Marquee status?
If it were Recoba I would understand the use of the Marquee, but does this young lad qualify as a crowd puller, ambassador of the club, the face of the Jets 08/09 season campaign?

Recoba is only good from free-kicks. Sack whack can do them anyway.

Either way "You've got the wrong Jesus!"

No no......... Recoba is a _god_ in every way from free kicks.  Doesn't change the fact he's a c*nt of the highest order.  ;)

Why sign a guy as marquee, when no one here knows the name?
Sure, you can read out his CV everytime someone looks a little confused, but he's hardly a marketing dream is he? Does he even speak English?
I'd reckon that Griffiths the C**t would have been better as a marquee, and I wonder what his reaction will be when he reads that this guy has become the top billing player? Probably have another sooky fit.

Im pretty sure that if Recoba and Griffiths had a love child it would be the Antichrist.

Agree, recoba is so good at free-kicks, every team he has ever played for has been willing to put up with him doing nothing for 87 minutes a game, because the 3 minutes he is kicking the ball from dead ball is just awesome

I dont expect anyone from where you are to know his name.
You have no football knowledge.

Some things you post on here are valid, but that post just makes you look like a complete wanker!

TBH nobody can judge this dude until he plays in Australia, IMO it's a big gamble.

26 goals in 56 games or whatever it is does sound impressive but there's so many factors to consider.  How will he settle in Newcastle? Does he like fibro homes? How does the game over there compare to over here? Will this league be more physical and take him half a year to settle in?

Watch youtube all you like but it doesn't tell you how he'd go over here.

Will he get the nod to be marquee considering the FFA will look at :

- Number of international caps the player has and how recent they were

- His experience in International football league/s and the standard played at

- The ability and potential to contribute to the development and success of the club

- The value of the most recent playing contract

- The international or national profile of the Player and his potential marketability for the Club and the A-League

I'm sure if the Jets had any sense what so ever they would have got authorisation for his status before getting him over here ???

Also, how will Joel 'sack whacker' Griffiths feel about this considering there has been plenty of talk that he could become their marquee player?
