From MV fourm ... words to the Song..

Look inside,

Look inside your tiny mind
Now look a bit harder
Cause we're so uninspired,
so sick and tired of all the
hatred you harbor

So you say
It's not okay to be gay
Well I think you're just evil
You're just some racist who
can't tie my laces
Your point of view is medieval

F you (F you)
F you very, very much
Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So please don't stay in touch

F you (F You)
F you very, very much
Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So please don't stay in touch

Do you get,
Do you get a little kick out of
being slow minded?
You want to be like your father
It's approval your after
Well that's not how you find it

Do you,
Do you really enjoy living a
life that's so hateful?
Cause there's a hole where
your soul should be
Your losing control of it and
it's really distasteful

F you (F You)
F you very, very much
Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So please don't stay in touch

F you (F You)
F you very, very much
Cause your words don't
translate and it's getting
quite late
So please don't stay in touch

F you, F you, F you,
F you, F you, F you,
F yooooou

You say
You think we need to go to war
well you're already in one
Cause it's people like you
who need to get slew
No one wants your opinion

F you (F You)
F you very, very much
Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So please don't stay in touch

F you (F You)
F you very, very much
Cause your words don't
translate and it's getting
quite late
So please don't stay in touch

F you, F you
F you, F you

We didn't host the Indy 500. However, we do host a round of the IRL (Indy Racing League) at the Gold Coast each year (except last year due to the amalgamation of the two competing series - IRL and CHAMP-cars).

The Indy 500 is a particular event that has been run by Indy-car/CART/CHAMP-car since 1911 and the IRL since 1998. Its held at the Indianapolis circuit and is one of the biggest sporting events in the world with attendance of something like 300,000 people on raceday.

I've been thinking about the furore over the stadiums. This will be a continuing problem in Australia with AFL and Cricket always pushing for Oval or 'multi-purpose' grounds.

Now is the time to bite the bullet and instead of trying to accomodate AFL with their exhorbitant compensation claims - use that money to acually build rectangular stadiums. NRL and Union can bugger off with compensation claims as they will gain access to a host of upgraded stadiums.

We should be looking at and Australia wide coverage that will set us up as the only true 'national' football code. This will mean HAL teams in time in Canberra, Tasmania and Darwin.

This is the reason behind the stadiums I would propose.

-Spread the Cost and Spread the benefits 15 stadiums used across every state and territory.
-Subiaco and MCG are the only oval grounds.
-SCG, Adelaide Oval, Gabba and Etihad left for AFL
-Total Tickets 3.7 million

Stadiums
-Adelaide
-Blacktown
-Brisbane
-Canberra
-Darwin
-Gold Coast
-Hobart
-Homebush
-MCG
-Newcastle
-Perth
-SFS
-Subiaco
-Townsville
-Tuggerah

Legacy for Football all the current HAL clubs and many likely clubs will have at least 45,000 stadiums readily accessible to host grand finals. They can minimise later to 25,000 if they want their decision.

50:50 Funding Federal/State

Subiaco is being upgraded by WA Govt for AFL so no upgrade cost to be incurred. If compliant it can be used for a Semifinal otherwise Brisbane can have the Semifinal.

Total Cost $2.385Billion

Total Upgrade Cost of $385Million

made up of
MCG     $30million
Homebush    $150million
SFS     $30million
Newcastle    $20million more than already committed
Subiaco     already promised to be FIFA compliant for AFL upgrade
Skilled        $95million
Brisbane   $60million

Upgraded Stadiums
-MCG minor upgrades no rectangularisation -
-Homebush closer to ground - roof
-SFS minor upgrades
-Energy Australia Stadium upgrade to 45,000
-Suncorp upgrade to 60,000
-Skilled Park Upgrade to 45,000

New Stadium Total Cost $2Billion (8 X ($250Million as quoted by Ben Buckley))

New Flatpack Stadiums
-Adelaide
-Blacktown
-Canberra
-Darwin
-Hobart
-Perth
-Townsville
-Tuggerah

Adelaide total tickets 315,000
-6 first round matches
-round of 16 match

Blacktown total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Brisbane total tickets 300,000
-3 first round matches
-round of 16 match
-quarter final

Canberra total tickets 180,000
-3 first round matches
-round of 16 match

Darwin total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Gold Coast total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Hobart total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Homebush total tickets 540,000
-opening ceremony and match
-two other first round matches
-round of 16 match

MCG total tickets 700,000
-opening ceremony and match
-two other first round match
-round of 16 match

-semifinal

Newcastle total tickets 180,000
-3 first round matches
-round of 16 match

Perth total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Subiaco total tickets 360,000
-3 first round matches
-round of 16 match
-quarterfinal
-semifinal

Sydney total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

Townsville total tickets 180,000
-3 first round matches
-round of 16 match

Tuggerah total tickets 135,000
-3 first round matches

The total cost is $2.385Billion to be largely competed in the six years from Jan 2011 - Jan 2017 or the ten years from Jan 2011 - Jan 2021.

Federal funding would be half around $1.2billion - that is $200million each year for 6 years or $120million each year for 10 years.

State funding would be also about the $1.2billion

NSW  $350million
VIC    $15 milllion - only slight tweaks to the MCG
QLD    $202.5million
SA    $125million
WA    $125million
TAS  $125million
ACT  $125million
NT    $125million

States with more upgrades would pay more. ACT and NT may have to get more federal funding. However, $35million a year for 10 years for a state like NSW with around 5 million people should not be too much of a stretch.

The spreading of the games as wide as possible also has the benefit of more regions of Australias gaining benefit from a successful World Cup.

I know this is a bit of a long ramble - but it's late and my thoughts may necome clearer in the morning. Anyway - this seems to be much preferable to sinking money that should be for football into more 'multi-purpose/AFL' grounds.

Chances are if we win FIFA will tell us that half the grounds wont be fine and make us build new ones eg sth africa.

What we needed was for the rugby league to grow some balls and push, with us and union for purposebuilt stadiums in adelaide and perth that would suit us all.

My understanding is we need to have 12 stadiums to pick from... but only 9 or 10 will be used...

Giving FIFA the right to say to the SA & WA gov's who only want to upgrade AFL grounds the bums rush unless they wish to build football / Union / RL stadiums...

Adelaide Oval upgrade is mooted at $450Million. Subiaco around $700 million. These have been promised even without a World Cup. So for 1.15Billion we get two upgraded AFL stadiums with no benefit to football.

I've left Adelaide Oval out since I think two ovals may be acceptable. Subiaco can also be left out. However that would limit tickets available in the West.

What I was proposing was a $2.385billion spend that would provide 5 football ground upgrades, 8 new flatpack football stadiums and an cosmetically upgraded MCG.

This would leave a true legacy for football and is well within the $2.9Billion being quoted by the PWC report. The 10 stadiums to be used is a minimum. My proposition would spread the cost and spread the benefit, not only for Australians to attend, but for tourists to visit and spend in more areas.

Together with HAL teams in Canberra, Darwin and Tasmania this proposal could form the background for the only true national competition in any sport in Australia. This is the opportunity, I just don't want it to be squandered on AFL.

In Darwin, and to a lesser extent Tassie, I cannot see a WC standard rectangular stadium being funded for three reasons. Both are very strong afl regions, little future use for a large capacity stadium because of low populations and neither have existing RL, Football or Union comps with little chance of that changing in the medium term.

In particular Darwin. It is afl crazy, especially among the large indigenous population, gaining it's largest crowds of any sport through visiting afl teams playing the NT indigenous rep team and local football is tiny in numbers compared to other regions of a much lesser population.

I like it PJ, one of the major bonuses of winning the WC has to be the idea of using it to build the infrastructure for the future success of football in this country.

Agree that AFL is massive in NT but is that down to no competition I wonder? What if we played some HAL games or pre season games up there?

The rewards for someone who cracks the indigenous population for football is massive when you think of their relative ability in the other codes.

Please don't make those kind of suggestions.

Unless you're suggesting it's another club's turn to give up home games.

Pre season at most you would think. Most obvious fit would be North Queensland. Although forcing forcing Gold coast to play a couple of games away from home would probably increase there average attendance  ;)
