Ljubo Set To Quit Jets

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle Jets' defender Ljubo Milicevic is in Melbourne following a bust-up with coach Gary Van Egmond and it's rumoured the former Socceroo won't return to the Hunter.
Milicevic and the coach had a verbal bust up at training yesterday ahead of Milicevic's return to Melbourne for personal reasons.

Today the Newcastle Herald reported on the training ground bust up with Jets CEO John Tsatsimas saying:"I'm aware there was an exchange."

Sources close to the player tell au.fourfourtwo.com that the 27-year-old feels "disillusioned" after his two month stint in the Hunter.

Milicevic is thought to be back in training with his personal trainer at the Southport gym in Port Melbourne and appears set to resume training with his childhood club Dandenong City.

Milicevic's rumoured exit comes hot on the heels of Jets' keeper Ante Covic's return to Swedish club football with Elfsborg. This means that ahead of the Jets' toughest tests - two games against J-League power Nagoya Grampus 8 in the ACL - their defence could once again be remodeled.

It's been a tough ACL for Van Egmond with the coach criticised for playing a 3-4-3 in China in the first group stage match, although the Jets recovered to beat Ulsan 2-0 last week.

Milicevic started in both rounds of the ACL and starred against the Koreans.

didnt take long did it

Ljubo career is looking in real jeopardy now.
If he can't fit in in the most dysfunctional team in the southern hemisphere where is he going to play

If, as reported by the Herald, part of his brief was to "fire up the players", then the Jets have noone else to blame but themselves.

What a pack of utter f**kwits they must be.

How can this possibly come as a surprise to them? The man is a f**king loon.

Surely a few calls to MV before you signed him would be in order or is that too much to ask from these clowns.

So........covic, loonboy....who's next?

I think they were in full-on panic mode when they signed Ljubo. The ACL was fast approaching, the wooden spoon was safely locked away in the Parklea Markets trophy cabinet and the rats were well and truly deserting the sinking ship. It was a perfect match really... both parties were as insane as the other

tbh i think this one is more due to ljubos chemically addicted mind moreso then any other issue

They no doubt told him to fire up. And then were surprised when he decided he knew better than everyone on the team and the coach, though they had no problem til he decided he knew better than GVE.

At melbourne he would have struggled because Muscat also figures he knows best, better than the players, refs and merrick. But at melbourne muscat has the board and coaches full support anyway, because they must assume he does know best.

Will the last one out please lock the revolving door and turn out the lights?

Controversial former Socceroo Ljubo Milicevic is set to meet with the Professional Footballers Association today in an attempt to get out of his one year deal with the Newcastle Jets.

The 26-year-old stormed out of a Jets training session on Tuesday after a heated exchange with coach Gary van Egmond, believed to have been fueled by a difference of opinion over a training drill.

He promptly returned to Melbourne and has reportedly linked up with his personal trainer.

Milicevic linked up with the Jets in February and has played a crucial role in both their Asian Champions League matches this year. It is believed he was offered the captaincy last week, but rejected it, causing tension within the playing group.

Now, TWG understands the controversial defender has attracted strong interest from Croatian club Hajduk Split, where his former team-mate and close friend Josip Skoko has been playing since July last year.

The latest incident caps a week of drama for the beleaguered Jets, after goalkeeper Ante Covic left the club amid revelations players were owed $100,000 in unpaid superannuation.

It is believed the circumstances surrounding Covics departure are also key factors behind Milicevics disillusionment.

50 pages and this thread is still going strong.

Maybe we should sticky this thread?

If I had some substantial time I would summarise all the turmoil in these fifty pages. Would make for some great reading.

Good grief.......they can't even keep players for an ACL campaign.

(Mind you, Ljubo was always going to be a handful. Doubt he's in the running for a contract in Croatia - he's probably just blowing bs. Does 'personal trainer' read as drug dealer to anyone else in that story?)

And hell, who knows who is going to line up for the Jets come the Pre Season. If the allegations of non payments are true, why the blazes would any player think of signing for them.

As bad as depression is, and as much as we shouldnt joke about these types of things... Milicevic is a massive douche and I cant think of anyone who deserves an illness as much as him. And to bring the Newcastle Jets down with him just makes it all the more sweet!

If he left for the same reason as covic, who could blame him really? Jest the only losers as he had drawn them back to almost decent.

No need to sticky the thread Mick, a day doesnt go by...

I would say that Milicevic has more issues than depression......if he's bipolar he should have had that sorted out now so that it is not so interfering in his behaviour. There's a heap of good psychiatry around, he's in good enough physical shape, he should be eating good food.......and if he's had a history of bipolar he should have a competent GP who can help with any medication to assist him. He would be a bad advertisement for what progressive medical practices can do for people with bipolar, and how they can cope in their chosen profession - if that is really his problem.
