Boom Newcastle midfielder Ben Kantarovski has been invited to trial with German club Bayern Munich.

TWG understands the 17-year-old will link up with the Bundesliga giants immediately following the Jets' next match in the Asian Champions League, against Japanese side Nagoya Grampus on April 7.

The move to one of the football's most prestigious clubs caps a meteoric rise this season for Kantarovski, who cemented a  starting birth with the Jets, won the club's Player of the Year and Rising star awards and was selected in Pim Verbeek's Socceroos squad to play Kuwait.

At Bayern, Kantarovski will join a who's who of the world's best players, including French ace Frank Ribery and Italy's Luca Toni. The club are second in the Bundesliga and are still alive in the UEFA Champions League, having smashed Portugal's Sporting Lisbon 12-1 over two second round legs.

Ante Covic tells Jets to fix 'off-field problems'

JETS goalkeeper Ante Covic has vented his frustration at the "distractions" that derailed the club's A-League championship defence last season as he prepares to return to Sweden.

Covic could be in goal for his new club, Elfsborg, in a trial match on Saturday after signing a three-year deal.


But he leaves Newcastle disenchanted by a series of problems which, he said, prevented the players from reaching their optimum ability.


"Off the field, I don't think the team, the players and coaching staff are given what's needed to go out and perform at the high level without any other concerns," Covic said. "That's one of the major reasons I'm going back to Sweden.


"Once I get over there I know the club will do anything they can to help players perform and win games. I think that's where things are lacking here and shortcuts are taken.


"There is real problems with what's happening off the field.


"There's too many frustrations and distractions that end up getting carried onto the field.


"With Newcastle, we had a good football team, but we need to have a good football club."


He admitted he did not have the best of seasons but felt the club could not move forward until they resolved their off-field issues.


"I'm not trying to make excuses for a poor season . . . I'm a big critic of myself, and I know I didn't get the best from myself this year," he said. "I probably shouldn't have let some things affect me, and I don't want to sound bitter, but there's a lot of small issues that could be very easily overcome.


"From the great squad we had two years ago, 10 or 12 of our best players have left, and you probably wouldn't find one player happy with how things have happened.


"If we ever want to regularly compete with the best teams in Japan or Korea or even reach the level of some of the lower European countries, things have to improve."

+1, from my experiences of away travel the only place where we constantly have problems because they are disorganised is newcastle

Other players said they were also awaiting overdue super. Two quarterly payments, in September and January, have been missed. It is understood the amount unpaid is close to $100,000. Yesterday's allegations are the latest in a line of complaints from people who claim they have been short-changed by the Jets.

Club owner Con Constantine did not deny the Jets may have been tardy with payments and said any debts to players would be "tidied up" in the near future.

PFA boss Brendan Schwab said his organisation was in the process of itemising the collective debts and hoped to be in a position to serve the Jets a letter of demand next week. And, in an extraordinary broadside, Schwab claimed delaying payments was "standard business practice" for the Jets and a contributing factor to the exodus of players since the 2007-08 grand final win.

con was never in charge of the breakers

con, soccer australia, the nnswsf and some profile players used the unpaid super as a way of revoking the breakers licence and putting con in charge

ironically most of the clubs at the time were behind in payments

even more ironic is that con still owes super from players playing at newcastle united pre-aleague days
