Something like this?

--------------Ryan-------------
Bojic-Sainsbury-Zwaanswijk-Rose
-----Montgomery-Hutchinson------
McGlinchey---Rogic---Sterjovski
--------------Ibini-------------

Bench: Bozanic, Kwasnik, Anderson, Pasfield

Similar. Bozanic for Hutch and swap Sterjovski and Ibini.

Ryan

Bojic - Sainsbury - Zwaanswijk - Rose

Montgomery - Hutchinson

Caceres

Birnie Rogic Duke

In my opinion Caceres is a better distributor of the ball than Rogic and has more work rate for that AM role.Birnie and Duke have pace and scoring ability, they will cause a lot of problems with through balls behind defenders. Rogic will get tired of scoring goals.

I like the look of all of the options :) doesn't seem to matter which combinations people are putting up we are looking very strong all the way through with good options in all positions no matter what formation Arnie decides on.

It's exciting to see as there seems to be a number of new tactics we can use this season

In other news the trial v syd tomorrow is cancelled as the lads have pulled up a bit tired and sore. Were there any more planned or is that it now til season start?

"Central Coast Mariners regret to advise tomorrow’s pre-season friendly fixture against Sydney FC has been cancelled.
Central Coast Mariners Head Coach, Graham Arnold, said: “I am very apologetic and the players are very disappointed that we have to cancel this game.”
“I spoke at length to (Sydney FC Head Coach) Ian Crook who totally understands our situation as Sydney have had to call off games due to the same situation this pre-season.”
“Originally the game was booked for Thursday but had to be moved to Wednesday due to the (Alessandro) Del Piero factor.”
“We played in Maroochydore on Sunday against Brisbane in very warm conditions and that has sapped the energy of our players. We also copped a few slight injuries and after travelling back yesterday we had a light training session this morning. The players have not recovered sufficiently for me to put them in a high-risk situation by playing again tomorrow."
“It was my decision to cancel the game as I don’t want to jeopardise the welfare of any of our players.”
“After the Brisbane game and performance I am very happy with where we are at tactically and mentally, and we’re ready to go for round one against Western Sydney. That is our focus.”
“We’re disappointed that we can’t play Sydney who we deem as one of the favourites for this year's Hyundai A-League. It would have been a good test for us to see where we are at,” Arnold concluded.
Central Coast Mariners acknowledge and appreciate the understanding of Sydney FC."

Arnie doesn't seem overly sentimental.

Another possible formation role for Weeemac could be...

--------------Ryan-------------
-Bojic-Sainsbury-Zwaanswijk-Rose
-----Montgomery-Weemac-----
----Bernie---Rogic---Hutch----
-------------Sterjovski-------------

Would miss Weemac out wide, but he is great under pressure, (important against Ange's pressure style of play)
and does the DM role for All whites. + Said that Monty is not the best distributor, so having weemac or Olly alongside might
be a good option.

I like this squad. It's often said that the squad dictates the system. I feel with our squad we could probably successfully
play any number of formations. Much more so than any other season.

-------------Ryan-------------
-Bojic-Sainsbury-Zwaanswijk-Rose
--Weemac---Montgomery---Olly---
----Bernie---Rogic----Sterjovski

I like the look of both of those last two line ups.
The 433 is very exciting but maybe we would get overun in midfield.
The 442 really looks like the perfect set up.

It's an impressive squad. I agree with Bladesman that I'm not really unhappy with any of the combos being put forward.

And excited considering the guys that would be pressuring to get into those line ups, - all capable of doing a job and then some. Hutch, Hearfield, Kwas, McBreen, Duke, Pellegrino, Pasfield, Anderson, Caceres, Oates, Gibbs, Griffiths, McDonald...
Bloody ell eh.

Victory was just on 442 bragging of their amazing depth...

Tando Velaphi, Petar Franjic, Sam Gallagher, Diogo Ferreira, James Jeggo, Theo Markelis, Julius Davies, Isaka Cernak and Danny Allsopp.

It bodes well.

Actually, Dutchy has said that he's been looking amongst the sharpest at training...

Pretty sure they said that about him last season. He even looked alright against state league and lower teams. But was well out of place in the a-league. I cant really fathom playing him and trying to get him into form rather than giving game time to a youngster.

I'm thinking of his days at Perth, he was McGlinchey-esque which is what made me pleased when we signed him. I don't think he got great opportunities last season and when he got them didn't shine. Could be luck/timing or a fair reflection of his skills in todays higher quality league, only Arnie will know really but as he's sticking with him I'd say he still worth the support for now

I thought he was our best on park against Celtic in pre season last year. But he never found his stride, and was either unable to be involved enough or juts not wise enough in his decision making. But I haven't given up hope. There is some quality there.
I trust Arnie. If he thinks he's a first XI player. I'll believe him. If not. I'll believe that too.

He started the first four games of the season last year and was gash in everyone of them. You don't get much more of an opportunity than that.

I hoped he would be decent but I'm with Jesus....I don't rate him.

Hutcho deserves to start in front of Pellers. Hutcho is not great either but Hutcho always gives 100% and occasionally plays a blinder.

I've listened to him on the radio and he appears to be a great bloke but he has been a massive underachiever for us so far.

He was horrid in those games and make alot of enemies in the crowd. Everytime he came on last year there were dozens of people around me sighing, cursing, asking arnie "why? why? dear God why? We want to win?"

I thought his touch was horrible last year. We started the season and he looked like he had not played with the team before, he was not seeing peoples runs, making all the wrong passes, and constantly giving up possesion or miscontrolling the ball. Had he just come in that is fair enough, but he had a full preseason with the lads.

If he doesnt see any game time this year, i could point to dozens of people who sit near me who will be stoked.

I will be one of them. Though i personally just look to the sky and shake my head and ask why

I hope he proves me wrong, but though i back alot of underloved players (im looking at you kwassie), i cant say that pelle has given me any positive moments to remember him by

Don't get me wrong I agree with everything said so far, I've been pretty under-impressed and also groan when he's chosen - it never bodes well and there are so many who should get picked first. I'm just reminded of a mate who used to whinge and moan every time Holman got picked for Australia. I made a similar comment to him before the world cup when he was having a rant that hopefully for both Holman's and Australia's sake he has a good WC. Prior to that he had the talent but hadn't shown it in green and gold really and had made a number of poor decisions. I'm just hoping Pellergrin's the same, for his and our sake.

For his sake...yes.

For our sake ...no.

We dont really need him but if he is going to play out of his skin and force and hold a starting position then its a win for us both.

today i thought we played a sort of 4-2-3-1 and at times 4-4-2

----------ryan-------------
bojic---ando---sainsbury---rose
----monty------hutch--------
mcglinchey---rogic-----sterjovski
-----------duke-------------

was really interesting to see arnie talking and yelling at the boys, thoughts?

This is the exact formation I was thinking of in the other thread on Hutchos captaincy, Duke puts himself about and is probably the best suited to leading a line.

We will be very tough to break down and quite capable on the counter.

Good to see Anderson getting game time with Dutchy having his knock, and now he and Sainsbury can truly start duking it out for a starting spot.
