Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. Very good performance from the boys. Executed the game plan well in the first half despite it being very hot still and the pitch was dryer than the Sahara.
Driving out from the back and moving the ball quickly wide. Plenty of chances created from the wide boys. Without the ball they pressed really well. Made it impossible for the Jets to play out and all they could do was go long. Great free kick in from Papas to find Pratt for the opener. Very tidy finish. We also had one cleared off the line in the first half before we scored.
Second half we rode our luck a little. We still created plenty but the boys were getting frustrated at not putting them away and the Jets came back into it. Jets hit the crossbar from a free kick and the following scramble resulted in a penalty. Adam Pearce with a cracking save. 3/3 penalty saves for him this season. Jets hit the crossbar again a few minutes later.

The boys dug deep and defended well. A hoof ball in the 90th to clear it ended up putting the Jets backs under pressure. Very good hassle from Matthew Lee who won the ball and neatly chipped the keeper to put the result in no doubt. All the boys, even Pearce, sprinted to the corner to celebrate. Was great to see that much passion. Important result that puts us in second, one point behind the Jets with two big games against WSW and SFC to go.
Was a great game to watch. Well done the boys and Ben Cahn :headbounce:

Yep full 90mins for Taveras and moved well but looked like he needed the run. Was toying with the boys at times.

Bingham did well and showed he is a step above the guys playing which he should do.

Otherwise a scrappy affair in the box for both sides. Nice play box to box but some dreadful finishing.

Pressed hard first 5-10 mins and dominated. They turned it over like our A League side does and we had a shot with only keeper to beat from top of box, but nice save. Should have scored.. Not long after a cross from near post popped out to open player with their keeper stuck on near post. With only two WSW players near a diving block on a good shot by the defender stopped a certain goal. Should have buried.

Next 10 WSW all over us. Complete flip of the switch. Majok I think it is got through on a 45 degree angle almost at 6yrd box and a very poor tame effort straight to Pearce with not even enough power to cause any issues. Very poor effort.
A scramble in the box not long after where we made a few diving last ditch tackles but kept falling to them and finally rebounds off someone to beat Pearce.
Think it was just after or may have been before they had another goal cancelled for offside. Looked good goal to me nice pass to Majok who crossed on 6yrd box for a tap in on other side.
After drinks was pretty even. Our right side crossed into a heavy cross breeze and the ball got caught and just sat up perfectly for Bingham to use his height and skill for a top header for 1-1.

2nd half again we dominated early but this time punished them few nice breaks but the shot from right winger was a cracker from top of box, absolutely hammered it. Top goal. Then minutes later a ball played to Bingham at top of box and he chipped it to the run into the box on the right. The player was brought down. Clear penalty. Bingham nailed it on ground sending Keeper wrong way. 3-1. Then another shot from right was saved low from keeper when looked like scoring. Top save.

Then WSW dominated for the rest of the game. Pearce pulled off one really good stop when WSW should have scored. They had a lot of deep possession but couldn't crack a goal. If they had they would have got two type feel.

Good effort in testing wind and heat. Football is not a summer sport.

WSW official was absolutely filthy after the game swearing about the official on his way to the change rooms.

Won't be going back again in summer though. Terrible place to watch. The shade is 10m from field and every stands on the fence so you can't sit in shade and see. The pitch also looks like it was built by gypsies. So uneven. Beautiful grass but some one give them a level. For all the money spent on the place, surely the main pitch can be flat and have a stand.

Big gap between youth and A league as well, as you'd expect.

Unfortunately the site for COE may have been chosen for the price rather than the quality of land to build upon. The pitch was originally in pristine shape, but because of either subsidence or being built on a swamp it now resembles, well, as you put it, as though it was built by gypsies. I can foresee the Academy being based at the Tuggerah Regional Sporting Complex around the corner once it is built.

The Mariners started brightly with Kekeris impressing on the left wing. WSW had a goal correctly ruled out for offside after WSW broke through the CCM defence, but the intended squared pass was played forwards for a tap in, the liney flagged offside. A rare keeper error from Pearce gifted WSW the first goal, when his distribution went astray, playing up the middle to the WSW CF 25 yards out. The ball was then played to the goal scorer on the edge of the box who wriggled free of some desperate defending and his deflected shot gave Pearce no chance and settled in the back of the net. WSW were wrestling momentum back from the Mariners, but a cross from Safdari held up in the breexe and Bingham timed his header to perfection, burying it in the top right to level the scores going in to half time. The heat had an effect, particularly on the two right backs from either side who looked out on their feet as the half drew to a close.

General play in the second half was pretty even with both teams guilty of not taking their chances. Again, a keeper error, this time from WSW who played the ball out straight up the middle to Safdiri, who took the ball under control and advanced to just outside the box before firing home a fantastic finish, giving him a goal and an assist, just before he was substituted. Not 2 mins later, Mariners were awarded a clear pen after Shelford Dais was brought down in the box when, in all fairness, he was probably going nowhere, and certainly wasn't a goal threat, poor defending. Bingham stepped up and coolly rolled the ball down the centre of goal as the keeper dived to his right. The final 30 minutes played out with the Mariners players happy to absorb the pressure from WSW, head coach Ben Cahn, not so happy, wanted the boys to keep possession. In the end, a good win to setup a final round home game vs Sydney FC in a fortnight which could decide the Conference winners.

Taveres returning from injury showed his class, but didn't exert himself a great deal, it looked more like a training run. It was good though to see him play the full 90 after being given the choice of how many minutes he would play.

When Charlesworth decided not to build a stand, CoE became a terrible place to watch football.

I guess no money is invested in the facilities either, cant rent those out out can you :)

Provided Taveras pulls up well he is good for next week, probably only 60mins but definitely gliding across the field. Just un match fit

Bingham would do well with a our style in the senior team. The youth use the wings as well and having Binghams height and strength gives an aerial target for the wingers. Unless Roy gets suspended doesn't look like getting the sniff he needs. Has good control but is definitely a target man and not a winger as TW tried to make him
