National Youth League Fixtures and Mariners youth team discussion

moved up the coast last week and today was my first game in which I've been too. The kids were excited watching the youth boys today. Got a few quality players in there. Number 10 who scored the 2nd goal and the number 9 who came on caused havoc. Keen to go to more youth games this season!

Good to have you :headbounce:
No 10 was Mitchell Duke, who had a terrific season last year including scoring our 3rd goal vs Gold Coast just before the final series. Unfortunately his path has been blocked by older strikers and the emergence of his fellow youth striker- BERNIE IBINI ISEI (can't really promote 2 strikers in same year). I think we will more of him in Seniors next year.

The no9. was Kwabena Appiah-Kubi, someone we will agree will become a crowd favourite when he hopefully progresses to senior football. He made a few pre-season appearances for the Senior team.

Today was my first youth game in a year

Ok. I was very keen to get down there for today's game.
1-0 at halftime to us (McDonald volley, 1 on 1 with the gk)
Then 2-0 thanks to Duke 10 mins into 2nd half.

And then we crashed spectacularly
I missed their first goal. 2nd goal was a tad bit sloppy in defence.
And 3rd goal, well the gk will be havin nightmares. Came out to collect from a freekick from sideline (not a good one tbh) but fumbled the ball, and McGarry slotted home into empty net.
Kwabena Appiah-Kubi had a header against the post with 5 mins to go (after a fantastic save from their gk...i forget who had the shot)

Our CB Gallagher is being used as a LB atm (he has played abit there in the past I am led to believe).
Unfortunately he doesn't possess the technique going forward. Big talker though (which I like).
The defence was somewhat a shambles in the 2nd half...and in the first half. I like that they try to play out from the back...but just poor decision making.

Overall our build up play was top notch.
Hayward seems to hold the ball up well, but the real go getter for me is Duke (who we are all aware of).
Kwabena Appiah-Kubi came off the bench again...absolute livewire. Faster than Bernie. Seemed to drift wide (even though he was a 'striker'). Seems like a RW. Just so much excitement. This has got potential. I wonder what position we are going to use him

McDonald looked pretty good first half (IMO). Well taken goal, and brilliant build up play.
Jimmy Oates- I love the guy, great choice for captain. Still has a lot of work to do. But I've read some really good newspaper articles about him (think Simon, Jedinak work ethic in terms of training and dedication).
Amini...Good to see him get 60 odd mins under the belt (great move by mgt to help him get additional mins to the 20 he had in Seniors). Had some nice touches, had good intensity, but still not 100%. But he is gettin there (we need to be patient).
I like his distribution

Just really upset we threw away a win...but the boys have to learn from this!

Going to make it a weekly routine to get to the youth matches. 2nd game I've been too and it was nothing short of entertaining.

Victory weren't too good but our combination play was fantastic. Justin Hayward had a great game in the first half and drifted off in the 2nd. Did extremely well to get awarded with the 2 penalties.

Appiah-Kubi was fantastic again entertaining with flicks and tricks and cool finish with his goal. Pick of the bunch was the number 6. Outstanding on the ball. Anyone know where Mitchell Duke was?

We might all know who the No.6 is, or anyone else, if the club got off its backside and actually published the team line-up - like the used to do. I don't know why they have stopped doing it but it is irritating.

Youth team went down to Heart 2-1 today. Fairly close game really - Heart's goals were good ones, but I think they both came off some rather lacklustre defence. Our only goal came off a penalty.

Alex Robinson was on hand to report on the NYL match between Melbourne Heart FC and Central Coast Mariners FC:

Strange that a reporter in Melbourne can provide the team line-up but the CCM's website always fails to do so. I am a fan and a member and it really annoys me that the club is too lazy or too indifferent to list the team

There's no oneleft in the office.

interestingly there were a few changes to this squad including Frank Farina's son/nephew??(who replaced Duke on the hour) and no over age players with the most senior player being Trent Sainsbury.

Which is why I am interested in the line-up; I like to see these small bits of information, its all part of the fabric of football.
