Australia's down fall in the future will be that they select players through there systems and for other reasons, other than performances.

Possibly. It remains to be seen. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I don't know.

Jaza, You seem to know what you are talking about players like Ramsey will just by pass and leave the country like others before and others in the future, these A- League teams can not see talent as they are not qualified to see them coming. Coaching abilities are the problem here in this country, not qualified enough or experienced to see characteristics of great young players that need a go to show there worth.

I think you overrate how good these kids are. Remember, we do have overseas scouts watching the NYL. THe best forward in the comp (Kerim Bulut) was taken away from us mid-season by a Czech club. I'm not that fussed because Bulut was too good for the HAL anyway (at 18yrs old he'd have been amongst the best in the comp, and easily the 2nd best finisher), but it does show that clubs are watching the kids.

Someone like Ramsay can hope for a HAL career at best. Ditto the likes of Smith in your NYL team. If they don't get that, it will be back to the state leagues for them. There are not hidden gems that can continue pro careers overseas everywhere - by and large the ones that deserve to get picked up have done so so far (the big exception being Gallagher).

And by the way i watched nearly all the Youth games this season for CCM as apposed to others on this forum that watched 6 games and think they know which players should have been signed.

So GT, whose dad are you then? You're coming off sounding like the parent of the kid who misses the A team and blames the coach, the other kids and anything else rather than saying that maybe your kid just didn't make the grade.

I personally thought he was just coming off sounding like a twat.

No, defintely sounding like a parent or relative of a youth player.

How many away games have you seen GT?

I pretty much have seen every youth game this season (home and away) and I saw very few outstanding games. Most of the time we were lucky, jagged some late goals, had our three keepers make some unbelievable saves and rode on the back of the senior players.

Having seen most of the games IMO the only three players that could potentiall step up were Ryan, Bernie and Panni.

Ryan is already signed and Bernie will be after one more season in youth as he is still too raw.

Panni is an interesting case. As others have said we already have an abundance of midfielders. Having also watched plenty of training sessions and Panni in the seniors I believe he doesn't have the speed thought to make an impact in the A-League. Holds on the ball way too long. I can totally see why he wasn't picked up.

Slight change of subject really.

The hardest job in football must surely be gauging the potential of young players. The "star" at 17 can fade away and end up in park football. The plodder at 17 can become a great player in their early 20's.

The obvious superstars are easy to spot but I reckon 99% of footballers arent that obvious.

NYL will always be a place for heated debates but as Mick says, its on the training paddock where you really get to know someone, not 90 mins in a game.

Personally, I didnt get the Lewis thing by watching him at NYL level. Can you think of a game he has carved? I cant.

Then he gets on the pitch in Melb and has a blinder. Go figure. Panni (to be fair I am a fan) was the other way around.

3 NYL players to be contracted outside of the salary cap - what does it mean? Will we now sign Bernie and Mallia and? http://www.smh.com.au/sport/football/ffa-allows-young-guns-to-squeeze-under-cap-20100421-t09o.html.

With Panni Nikas having been running around at Sutherland Sharks (now moving to NQ Fury) and Mitchell Mallia at Marconi, two other NYL players are not wasting time:

"New recruits may help the Spirit

Murray Wenzel | 1st June 2010  Bundaberg

THEY may not prove the difference between winning and losing, but two new players are the first good news the Bundaberg Toyota Spirit have had since their last win on July 30, 2008.

Central Coast Mariners recruits Nick Fitzgerald and Adam Ormsby are in Bundaberg this afternoon to line up for their new team against Rockhampton this weekend.

Their arrival is thanks to Spirit assistant coach Tony Roebuck and his connection with Mariners under-23 and Australian Youth team coach Tony Walmsley.

The high-profile coach was a director of coaching in Bundaberg and mentored Roebuck when the Bundaberg Waves were a force.

After chats with Walmsley, currently caretaker coach for Mariners A League, Roebuck managed to lure attacking talent Fitzgerald and tall defender Ormsby to the rum city.

I basically told him we needed an attacking midfielder and a defender, and he had a look at what was on offer, Roebuck said.

It may not mean we start winning matches, but its an improvement on whats happening.

Their season does not start until September, so the 10 or 11 games left in the QSL season provides the prodigious talents a chance to prove their case for A League selection.

With (Australian assistant coach) Graham Arnold coming in this year they have someone new to prove themselves to, so instead of sitting around not playing they can be here pressing their case, Roebuck said.

And there could be no better way of doing that than leading the Spirit out of the doldrums and into the winners circle."

Interesting that Walmsley will release players doing a favour for an old mate in the QSL but the Mariners refuse to release players to play for Central Coast Lightning until August. All this noise about being an official feeder club and improved relations is just that....noise. The Mariners need Lightning to be in Premier League to act as a proper feeder club for their fringe and youth league players. Until they actually do something about these so called closer relations then no one will benefit - Mariners, Lightning or the players.

Our two boys played and Bundaburg Spirit had there first win in over 12 months. FitzGerald scored the first and both were supposed to have played quite well from all accounts

Another 'reported' signing for Mariners NYL squad is 17 year old attacking midfielder Max Glanville from neighbouring Northern Tigers in the NSW Super League.

I don't yet have the CCMFC NYL squad but I believe they start training together, including some nights at Epping and Baulkham Hills (where I will get a look at them), in 2 weeks.

Coach will be I understand to be John McClafferty

The NYL is due to start around HAL R6.

NYL players (past/current/future) at the weekend in action include Gerry Kalouris who scored in U20 for Sydney Olympic in NSWPL finals, Bernie Ibini-Isei who came on as a sub in first grade for Blacktown City in in NSWPL finals, and Max Glanville who played a full game and scored for Northern Tigers in NSWSL R22.
