Bernie - piss off Dyron, we have a new cult hero.

17yo, no competitive games all season, debut and he looks full of promise. Unlucky not to have scored.

And no he wont be ready for the HAL for 2 or 3 years.

Funny game, more like a training run or trial really.Mind buggeringly hot, AIS pretty but pointless (typical GVE really).

Agree with all that.

Thought Sherlock was quality again also - with Lewis my best on park.

How old is the average age of the AIS boys? Younger?
Bloody awful till we started standing off them more in the second half.

Trouble with AIS is they now cant cherry pick the best youngsters as the HAL clubs get in 1st. Their technique was good but I guess getting picked for the AIS doesnt mean as much as it did.

Sherlock has to be going close to a 1st team spot soon? He would be a better RB than Boogs as he can actually pass the ball rather than close his eyes and try to boot it as high and far as he can

Be happier if he kicked it a bit bloody higher!
It was like he was on a personal mission to kick the ball into as many Fury players as possible!

Sherlocks is much better than Boogs on the ball too... But don't know how he stacks up against him aerially. Boogs often dominates in the air and I was worried about this... but watching Doig again tonight appeased me somewhat, he's solid aerially also - if not the highest vertical leap though.

Whilst our 2nd half formation of 3- 0-7 didnt give many outlets, our inability to hang onto the ball without turning over possession or hoofing it to an opponent is shocking sometimes.

Movement... just disappears...

Matty and Dmac are just such simple hold up men. They don't hang off the shoulder or make clever troubling diagonal runs... imo we need at least on striker who does this constantly Archie style. Its an obvious imbalance... Instead we have multiple Allsop style strikers who also don't know how to pull the trigger.

Midfield collapsing back and being slow to press forward or take on men kills our movement also.

*My point being... It's not at all like em young fellas have been doing.*

:innocent:

Did we gain a record in the NYL regarding the most corners taken against us and ended up with a clean sheet???

AIS kids are all younger than most NYL sides. AIS kids in this comp are 16-18. Most HAL sides are 18-20, with a few youngins.

When we beat them in rnd 1 of the NYL, our winner was scored only because the keepers arms werent long enough. Perfect technique on his dive, most other GKs wouldve got a hand on it, but he just couldnt reach. Poor kid had acne. LOL.

"Mariners snare Institute youngster

The Central Coast Mariners have taken another major step in planning for the future with the signing of boom Australian Institute of Sport prospect Mustafa Amini for two seasons.

The 16-year-old has shown enough during this seasons National Youth League campaign with the Canberra based side to become the youngest player ever to earn a Hyundai A-League contract with the Yellow and Navy, a deal which will keep him at Bluetongue Stadium until the end of the 2011/12 season.

Mustafa is such an exciting youngster who has been very impressive for the AIS this season, and we are delighted to have secured his services for the next two seasons, as we look to continue to mould our squad with the right mix of youth and experience, said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

Amini, a creative central midfielder who is equally at home virtually anywhere on the park, will turn 17 in April, and has been earmarked by AIS and Qantas Young Socceroos head coach Jan Versleijen as one of the local games brighter prospects, and will complete the season with the AIS before linking up with his new teammates in the off-season.

We saw him when he played against our boys at Seymour Shaw, it was a draw and we had a very strong team out that day but he was outstanding. He dictated play and made things happen, said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.

Since then weve watched him in a few games, and Jan (Versleijen), Gary Van Egmond and Han Berger, everybody in the national coaching panel highly recommend this boy and think hes something special. Hes only 16 but hes an outstanding talent and has a huge future. Its these special ones we need to try to get at an early age."

Interesting, I wonder what he brings that say Fitzgerald doesn't.  The 4 reports fro AIS games I have on BOTN he didn't play.

Mustafa on the right.

I got the chance to watch him play at Seymour Shaw and besides Eli Bubalj who scored their two goals in a 2-2, he was their best player. Amini was very quick, constantly causing headaches for our defense with his speed and some great balls up to Bubalj (tall, solid young lad who throws himself about and holds the ball up like Viduka). Tommy P/Nick T lovers will like this player.

Not in the three games I've seen, he has played midfield, or they are playing a very wierd formation... lol, perhaps they are

BTW another who has caught my eye is the wide defender Kalouris.

We should look at our Youth and promote and contract them first. The youth team is on top of table and these players played a role in the sucess.

my opinion about youth being second on the table:

we have jagged a few results and have had quite a lucky season

we have utilised the overage and squad players more than any other team and these players have been pivitol to scoring goals and winning games

there are only a couple of players that can realistically makes the step up - panny, redders and lewis are already signed to first team and only sherlock and possibly fitzgerald and ryan are next

therefore the notion that we prioritise signing the youth players because they are top of the table is a fallacy

how many of last year's sydney winning youth squad signed to first team have made a considerable contribution to the first grade squad this season? none and some will probably be released at the end of the season

sydney had to recruit more experienced players like kisel, keller and byun to make a difference to their title tilt

If we were able to "grow" 2 players a year for the senior squad, that would be an amazing achievement.

Over a 4 or 5 season period, you could have most of the squad having come up through the ranks but there will be years where none are deemed good enough
