Greg Owens suffering from appendicitis but expected to play?!

I don't know about you guys, but when I had appendicitis I could barely walk, let alone think of playing 90 mins. of football. If Grego is talking of playing he can't have appendicitis can he?

Can you get a small bout of it - and treat it like a virus? 'Cause most people I know who get it, have ended up in hospital within 24 hours and were operated on.

Shit FoxSports reporting:

FACING the league leaders on their home turf is tough enough. Doing it without your No.1 goalkeeper, leading defender and chief playmaker would seem almost impossible.
Yet despite adding goalkeeper Clint Bolton to the club's injury list, Sydney FC coach John Kosmina remains confident his depleted side can topple the Central Coast.

For the first time in the club's history, Bolton will be absent in goal for Sydney because of injury after the four-cap Socceroo failed a fitness test on his hip.

Bolton's back-up Ivan Necevski will be handed the gloves for his first start in sky blue - and in arguably Sydney's most important game of the season.

If that wasn't enough, Necevski won't have Socceroo star Mark Milligan to rely on in defence with the Olyroos skipper already ruled out with a virus and back injury.

Add to that the fact Brazilian Juninho (knee) is still two weeks away from returning and Sydney have just lost Japan-bound defender Mark Rudan, then the Gosford trip is shaping as a massive challenge for Kosmina's men.

The straight-talking coach, though, has no doubts Necevski and the rest of his side are up to the task.

"I've got full confidence in Ivan to get the job done," Kosmina said.

"He has stepped up big time in training this week knowing he was likely to play, and he is a good `keeper who will do well."

Bolton's only previous omission in Sydney's 62 A-League games came in round three this season when he was on duty with the Socceroos. Matthew Nash filled in on that occasion against Perth, and will be on the bench.

Milligan's spot in defence will likely be filled by new signing Mark Robertson - a player better known as a midfielder, but who Kosmina believes can do a job at the back.

"Robbo is another guy who I know will play well. He knows his way around a football field and has been there and done it in big games in Scotland and in Australia when he won Wollongong a grand final with his contribution," Kosmina said.

The re-scheduled match, which was postponed because of a water-logged pitch in Gosford two weeks ago, is the only A-League game this weekend, but will carry special significance for much of the competition.

Adelaide and Queensland in particular, will have a lot invested in the result.

Sydney will displace Adelaide from the top four with a win, while Central Coast, currently three points ahead of the second-placed Roar, can go a long way to sealing the minor premiership with victory.

The Mariners are expecting a club-record crowd of more than 15,000 for the match, and will be boasting their strongest squad of the season with injured trio Nik Mrdja, Matthew Osman and Nigel Boogaard all available for selection.

Coach Lawrie McKinna, however, remains wary of a facing a Sydney outfit still smarting from their shock 4-2 loss to Perth in Rudan's farewell match last weekend.

"Obviously Sydney got well beaten by Perth at the weekend and Kossie will have them wound up to come at us," McKinna said.

"If we get a win were six points clear at the top, with three of our last four games at home, so it's a huge game for both clubs."

Mariners wingback Dean Heffernan will play despite having to attend his brother's wedding in Sydney just hours before the 7pm kick-off.

Kosmina is behaving more and more like a total nob every time he opens his mouth.

I think he is on the verge of getting found out as a clueless longball manager.

Many Bling fans are similarly unimpressed

funny you should ask - pretty well exactly a year ago (just after my office christmas party) i had a bout of non-acute appendicitis. the wall of the appendix was swollen and whatnot, but when i went and had a scan they basically said 'the wall looks a bit thicker, so you've probably been getting this on and off without knowing it, but it's not gonna blow so no need to operate'.

didn't really tally with what i'd heard about appendicitis either (was expecting to have it whipped out...) but was glad to not have to have surgery and i'm still here, so obviously nothing too bad happened.

Welcomed their injuries as it meant that we wouldnt know what to expect from their players. He didnt sound like he was joking either.

Bling fans in the office reckon he will go the way of all the others.

It's a miracle, quick call the Vatican  - Mother Mary McKillop has answered Matt's prayers.

Seriously tho, Matt's still on crutches? Jeez he'd be getting sick of them by now, wouldn't he? Get well soon Matt Osman.

Actually the Mariners website states - with all but the clubs long-term injured pair Nik Mrdja and Matthew Osman fit and available.

Not sure where the papers get their crap from....
