Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

What are you talking about?

These are contracted workers, not employees.

Most of the issues in the workforce ( in the Gig economy) have be created by contracted workers in the employment workforce. My point is the rights don't exist for things like sick leave and long service for contracted workers because there's a contract involved between 2 parties, it's not an employee/employer relationship.

Besides, even employees can have seperation clauses stipulating where they can work after they leave.

Do you understand basic IR law?
No, sportspeople are absolutely employees under Australian law.

While there are difficulties in enforcing post employment restraints in general in employment in Australia, the same isn’t true of football, where FIFA runs a global registration system. You certainly can’t just walk out on a club to sign somewhere else.

They have to be agreed, though. Bad business if we’re just blindly agreeing to any proposed release clauses our players’ agents propose.
I doubt that it's blindly agreeing to what's proposed by the player but we are talking about a 23 year old with 13 games under his belt.

It's not like they could put a million dollars release clause in.

If we were doing that we wouldn't have to worry about being a selling club, no players would sign up to that in the first place.

Why is such a player in a position of power then? 1m is nothing in world football terms anyway but if they expect to set a fee that's way too low then they need to negotiate or we find another player. No way a fee can please everyone but if its two or three hundred grand is that worth our time to develop and take the risk on? I'd be inclined to say no it's not. If the player backs themselves they shouldnt expect a clause that's too low for the club's expectations anyway.

Especially if they are coming off 60 million dollar release clauses.

Did you notice that nobody activated the 60 million release clause?

His last 3 transfers have all been free and before us he went from the Portuguese 3rd division to Malta.

His current market value is rated at 300k.

We aren't putting a ridiculous release clause in there when he is an unknown quantity.

All players have the power. Ever since Bosman the clubs have had less and less.

He knows he isn't likely to go from here to the EPL in one step so it needs to be a realistic release clause for him to risk coming out here without completely removing the opportunity for a transfer. It's not like he could earn the equivalent of 100k in a European league.

So what was he released for from us?

It's f**king K2, this isn't even a jump up, I'm all for moving players, but this ain't good business.

Is there a way you could write in to the contract, to not sell to second tier leagues.
We don’t care where they go. All we care about is the $$$$. What club and country has no effect on good business.

Sometimes big clubs get desperate to get back to the top league and over pay or ambitious teams with new owners go on a spending spree to get to div 1. That’s what we are looking for. Desperate buyers with long arms that actually reach their wallets.

Also if he went and carved up. He could take them in to top flight in 1 year where sell ons might start to look attractive or top tier teams might take a chance if he was killing it in Div 2.

Then overseas after that.

Can’t speak to any credibility but Torres to K2 league?

That would really shit me. I want a full season first. Then a big fee.
Did Theo start this rumor. He’s 1 in 2 and in form if you are a glass half full type or the naysays might say 1 in a shit load of games.

Clearly we have signed him to have some one to play when we are between South Americans

Money is better than no money ??‍♂️
Also cash in while they are hot or before injury.

Benni was looking poor last season early and we maybe should have sold the year before.

Torres is starting to show his abilities and has hopefully settled on the coast and the league but he still has a poor shooting technique when not on the run. Would be good business to sell him knowing he has some deficiencies.

Now that would be bad for the team that looks to be gelling and the fans but if it’s just about cash then you take good offers

Then let em pay, and don't release unless they do.
