Mrdja Fights For His Future
http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/115782,mrdja-fights-for-his-future.aspx
NIK Mrdja accepts he is fighting for his A-League future as he battles to show Lawrie McKinna and other possible suitors that he is worth a fresh deal.
Mrdja, 30, is off contract with the Mariners at the end of the season and the injury-riddled front man needs some big performances to convince Central Coast coach McKinna he is worth keeping for another year.

His statistics this season do not make great reading and he still hasn't found the back of the net at first team level this campaign.

But Mrdja is likely to be included in the Mariners squad for Saturday night's match against Adelaide at Canberra Stadium.

He got some much-needed confidence when he netted a hat-trick for the Mariners in the National Youth League against Newcastle last week and he believes a goal in the A-League is not far away.

The former Perth striker is likely to come off the bench as the fifth-placed Mariners battle sixth-placed Adelaide.

"Eventually I'll come good," Mrdja said. "I'd like to keep playing in the A-League and I would like to stay on the coast.

"I haven't had a great record with injuries, that's what has stopped me. But I feel I've got on top of that now."

McKinna has shown great faith in Mrdja while he has been out for long periods with injury and still believes he has the potential to be a consistent scorer.

"We need goals and he got a hat-trick last week," McKinna said. "He is fit and scoring, we need to give him a chance."

Thought his seven minutes tonight was better than many of his other 90's.
Truthfully. Better movement, got ripped off with offsides and a decent strike on target and has lost the cocky trademark grin and instaed is wearing a deadly earnest give it his all type look...

We'll see.
But could not think of a better time for Nik to finalllllllly come good.

Agree 100% on tonight. You could see he was trying.

Also, he appreciated the Disco Nik chant while he was warming up and to be fair to the people around me, he got no stick at all only encouragement while warming up and on the pitch itself.

funny thing on the offsides, he was deadset robbed with one call - it was close, but still wrong.

a few minutes later he must have been metres over, and the AR kept the flag down. it was comically bad.

on the whole though, pretty decent effort.

The AR on the side opp the cameras was an absolute disgrace. She was at least 1m behind the play and thats why she f**ked up a lot of offsides.

Wouldnt flag for shirt pulling 2 feet in front of her.

Equal opp is a good thing but if they arent good enough - dont bother

'He's fit he's scoring we need to give him a chance' said McKinna, so gives him 7 minutes! FFS!

I got the impression the way nik was on the bench that he did not expect to be on the field and when he did come on it he had not been warming up. (yes half time and a bit in first half but his knees will lock up without movement)
His effort was fair enough under the circumstances

To be fair to Nik, he wasnt given a fair chance on Saturday.

Play him from the start against the Tards - if he cant cut it, fair enough.

Hes not really, hes just stating fact, the truth is she was shit and does not deserve to be an AR for A-league games.

ROFL

Almost as good as the offside from a throw in back in Season Three or whenever it was.
