ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I loved Gumps. However in Season 3 and 4 he had definitely lost a yard of pace. The gutsy chasing had no end product. He just committed himself and left holes elsewhere.

The fans might have been calling for him - but often with disappointing results.

What a f**king idiot you are.

That's some quality arguing right there. God knows how I can argue against that.

I wish I saw the game through glasses so tinted that I could think Gumprecht was doing well in his later years.
By that reasoning ... Do you think McGlinchey is as good as Maradona?

OK................Gumps is the only player that Lawrie showed flaws in his make-up as a coach. (Apart from not signing Mori in season 1)
For most people at the Mariners (apart from some  Marinators who many blindly believe what they are told) Gumpy was the most popular player.
Why........because players like Joe Cole and Matt Le Tissier and Glenn Hoddle show quality and stand out.  They are not always the coaches fav but always the fans... because fans want talent and guts.....not machines with no talent but heaps of fitness.
Gumps always showed the way when lesser talents like Clarke, Osman, Hutch, McMaster, Porter and Kwas were unfairly favoured by Lawrie.
This season thankfully we have some great new imports in WeeMac, Travis and Crowell so Gumps loss is not so stark (although it was shining like a beacon last week!)
Due to Gumps age he probably wont provewrong but f**k me how does Clarky get a spot when Gumps can't.[/b] LM  It's either money or Lawrie is unprofessional and feels threatened by Gumps knowledge of the game or he simply doesn't like him.....for everyone thats ever met him...the bloke is a diamond and as genuine as you can get so like many people have said its a BAD reflection on Lawrie.

Clarky doubles up as fitness coach.

I hear what u are saying but while he definately lost his pace in season 4... even on one leg he was more successful than the likes of Osman and others.
In his peak he pawned all of our middies.
To hear a Sydeny f**kwit like Jaza (whose opinions have generally been wayward and at time bemusing) slagging of a Coastie legend is too much.
If Gumps was 28 we would be unbeatable (if Simon had a strike partner).

But he's not 28.
That's the whole f**king point.

Do you punch cones at regular intervals in place of daily meals?

And in surprising news, Juninho was a better player at 28 than he was at 33.

Who woulda thunk it?

Blah Blah.

McGlinchey is good..... but not even as good as a Jedi or Corica as yet.  However he looks like he will be.

Gumps was 35 yo limping around on one leg and still was our best player at times last year.  I haven't whinged big time about us letting him go because at 35-36 on big bucks it was probally the right decision.
Did LM handle it well...f**k no.....and it cost us a GF and him Manger of the Year (the year b4)....but we all learn from our mistakes.

Still to hear some numpty banging on about a player he knows f**k all about it just too much.

Now just tell me how McFlynn, Musilik, Casey,
prentice and Gan are superior to gumps........you are tripping.  He is the dominant force in every side in Australia that he has played in...Parra/Glory/Mariners.

Gumprecht was viciously overrated. No matter how nice you are, you need to earn your place as a footballer. Gumprecht was very lucky to be in the entire squad by the end, let alone playing.

Really.

As oppossed to Osman/Clarke/D'Appuzzo/Kwas/Hutcho/O'Grady/Mrdja/Porter....shit he was lucky to make our squad wasn't he???  WTF?

Osman would still be a starting member of our squad if he was still here

The only other CM in your list is Hutch.

Now seriously, who do you think is going to provide more for the team THIS season out of those 2?

I have yet to meet a CCM fan who didnt idolise Gumps but we probably kept him a year too long. To have retained him would have been a massive error.

I still cant name 1 player who we have chosen to release who has gone on to better things?

Beware Hebrew ultras.

For a while this season I was beginning to think you had forgotten all about Gumps Wombat ;)

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit

Not sure how anyone can mention Le Tissier and Hoddle in the same sentence as Gumprecht?
For my money Gumps was excellent in season one, got crippled by that thug Leijer in season two, and then got found out by the opposition in following seasons who knew exactly what runs he would make. Occasionally he made an impact from the bench but would have left us a season earlier if Kwaz hadn't defected to NZ. Not missed IMO.

Well Mrdja will probably get another chance today at some point he's on the bench

Well we always say it, but after some hope in the NYL showing, this could be one of Nik's last chances. Man I hope he proves us wrong. I'd just like to see some hunger and general passion to be out there.

Gumps is well past it.

Last 15 minutes sub at best........and that was two years ago !

Re disco Nik......if our forwards can't score(which they can't) and he's scoring in the yoof then he's going to get a go at some point.
