Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Central Coast Mariners Squad 2021/22

Its a balance

In a 26 round comp if we concede 31 like we did this year then we really need to be scoring 10 to 15 goals more. i.e. this year we scored 35 and squeaked out quite a few games.

If you can tighten the defence a bit like our last premiership year where we conceded 22 in 27 games then then similar goal output to this year is okay.

Ideally we will improve both but if we hang on to them our CBs Kye and Ruon should be better off after a season together.

I'm loving how everyone is talking like this success and signings will continue next year. I think it will be a long feeling off season just waiting for news of, well anything to be honest. I'd be very surprised if it was anything but a disappointing off season with more reasons to be sceptical than encouraged.

But there's definitely the rest of this season to live out yet and if we do a run here deep into the post season then that might just get me through....COYY

I note your skepticism (probably well founded given the last 5-6 years) but I like to dwell on Mick's little birdie telling him Ruon has resigned, Staj contracted, Birraz saying that this is the happiest he has been at a club, the majority of the midfield contracted for next season and a bit of credibility back in the club.

We have Staj, Bozanic, Miller, Nisbet and Stensness on contract.

Most people have noted Birighitti, Hall, Rowles, Tongyik, Urena as priorities to re-sign and I agree that they are and are probably key to next season. I'd like DDS but reports suggest he may be going?

After that you have Pearce, Clisby, Nigro, Casella, Hatch, Janota, Jankovic, Bouman, & Matty and NPL2 players who with no disrespect intended to the players, who have mostly played important parts in our season, probably won't be chased too hard by other teams and we will probably keep who Staj wants

So if you can re-sign the priorities, keep the others that Staj wants to and pick up a couple of gems, either youth or unheralded gems from OS (they won't be people being chased by others) then there is no reason the team/ squad can't perform at the same or better given a season of playing together.

Whens the last time we re-signed an o/s player you thought should stay.............. also just because we have contracted players (or gaffer for that matter) doesn't mean they'll be here to see out that contract.

I'm just tempering my expectations to somewhere near pre 2021 levels. Without this year I'd be still screaming blue murder.

I do agree with what your saying however. There are signs...........I just don't think we'll be hearing about that, or anything really until the last minute and if that causes us to miss out on one or more of those players then things will quickly get sour. This clubs owner has never been one to realise when to take advantage of a leg up and I don't see him starting now.

You'll see this club sold before any of those players are signed

Ziggy left to join winners, now we are the winners contracts are less likely to be broken (Still will lose players, just not as many).
As long as the manner we play suits our wages, and we maintain the juniors coming through, we'll be fine.

You forget that Ken Schembri is in charge of retention and recruitment, so I have a sneaking suspicion that things might be done a little differently this time around.

If he stays. He said in a podcast he was on the verge of retiring and people at the club convinced him to stay on a bit longer. May it continue.
I wonder if there is a progression plan, I'm gunna say probably, would love to know it though

I see Rudan has been given the boot. Not to panic people but I heard last week that Staj was off to Western as he was pissed at Pikey for not allowing re-signings yet.
I hope to God this is just a coincidence...

Mmmmmmm....
I think a couple of years of hard work he would want to stay and see it through.

However I didn’t realise how far he lives and travels each day?!

Maybe there is a nice mutual offer in the works that Staj might consider now that he has his credibility back (not that he ever lost it) just now proven in A-League, he can find something with less travel from home to work making his life easier.

And obviously would have to be something decent in it for Mariners/Mike if he does have time left on contract.

There’s only 3 clubs closer to where he lives. I wouldn’t buy it based on commute and others here are saying re-signings have happened but are under wraps so who knows.

Staj would be a huge loss if he left.Who could replace him? Aloisi,Rudan,Aurelio Vidmar would be looking for jobs( not sure about Vidmar). One from left field would be lure Broich back from Germany.Any other suggestions if Staj does go?
