Thanks Midfielder, thats a great read. If Frank Lowey can't convince FIFA, no-one can.

+1

Should be printed out, wrapped round a brick and used to belt the journo's at the Tele and execs @ Ch7

We are the World game and have no need to get into pissing contests with other codes.

Serious - who would you rather

Kate Ellis or Mel Mclaughlin?

Damn you...... damn damn DAMN YOU!!!  That's an impossible choice.

Kate is hot and powerful, but Mel is Mel.  I really couldn't choose - can I just say "either is fine by me"??

NO CHOOSE
TBF I THOUGHT YOU WERE MORE OF A BELINDA NEAL FAN

SORRY WHAT??  I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE YELLING!!!  :p

Explain what you mean by "no choose" - you mean I have to pick one or the other definitively??  'Cause if that was the case then I'd have to go with Ms. McLaughlin.  Only just.

P.S.  Their seems to be an disproportionate amount of discussion as to what I do all day and my lack of a job or some such - surely those concerned have their own, actual lives to lead??  'Cause believe me, aside from the occasional football trip, mine ain't that exciting.....

Just found this article- good read
From the sounds of it if I were any of the big boys (Spain, Brazil, England etc.) I would be very interested at staying in Tuggerah
1 query though, if we managed to get matches (by getting temporary seating or something like that at BT), would preference for Tuggerah stay be given to one of teams playing BT...ie. a 'small' team (we obviously wont get the big games)

oh and we are still known as the coast :D (suck that Gold!

Coast keen for world cup role
THE Central Coast is in a prime position to play a major part in hosting an Australian World Cup according to Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman.

The Mariners have thrown their support behind Australia's united bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cups.

"The Central Coast Mariners football club, as a passionate member of Australia's football family is 100% behind Football Federation Australia's bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cups.

"Geographically, we believe our region is in a prime position to play a major part in hosting such an event, with world class hotels, training facilities and natural beauty at our disposal, the Central Coast will both contribute to, and also benefit massively from a tournament of this magnitude coming to our country.

"Along with this, the Mariners centre of excellence at Tuggerah would be the perfect location for a competing nation to base itself for the duration of the tournament, giving itself access to state of the art training, recovery and sports science technology, while being housed in modern comfort, away from the intense glare of a capital city, yet just an hour away from one of the tournament's major hubs," said Gorman.

The Mariners believe their foothold in the Central Coast community could help sway officials into making decisions regarding the regions role in hosting a World Cup.

"Plans for our centre of excellence are already well advanced, and the area already has the luxury of a 20,000 seat stadium to call its own. The Central Coast is already passionate about the game, we have around 14-thousand registered players, and Mariners memberships are as strong as ever.

"We want to see that current commitment to the game from the grassroots to the Hyundai A-League and beyond, help us to help Australia in its bid to secure the rights to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cups, and we wish Mr. Lowy and his team every success, and our full support as they continue their quest," said Gorman.

Fast Ferry??  Who what where??

So fast you missed it eh? ;)

Memo to Lyall:

Er, you haven't actually broke soil on this project yet Lyall.

At the moment it is industrial acreage, a council ground, a small licenced club and a sewerage treatment plant.

Everything else you mentioned is subject to all sorts of prior approval BEFORE the things are built. (I'm still waiting for some Greenie group to spring up and announce that an obscure frog calls the sewerage plant, or the Tuggerah Oval, home and the whole project screeches to a stop. :-\ )

In summary, do not count your chickens before they are hatched. :headbutt:

"Nothing to see here, move along move along......"

HOWEVER

To be positive, you have to assume that the club will have a very nifty training, administration and accommodation complex especially tailored for Football by 2018, with an ability to close off a smallish stadium to train on for those closed sessions.

If all goes well, it would be an ideal location for a team that is pooled for games in Sydney, so long as they can get a police escort for the coach along the F3 and keep the travel down to around 1 hour (which wouldn't be too hard to organise).

Would love to see say, Italy or Spain, base themselves at Tuggerah, and watch all their fans pile out of the train at Tuggerah when they hold open training sessions. That alone would be magical to see.

The Tuggerah Centre of Excellence bit - I'd rather they start doing some work on it before we start spruiking it as a reason to base a World Cup team here.... _just in case_.

</realist>  :p
