I like the logo for the event.
Often event logos look shite or just odd, eg. London Olympics (odd and shite).
Kangaroos, football and sun. Gets the job done.

I don't know what to make of one scene in the video.
Indigenous Australian kids playing football with the didge blasting in the score. These are kids dressed in modern garb at a school.
Picture a scene of a group of American mallrats who happen to be of Native American ancestry. Would it be appropriate to drop some hot tribal drum beats over a video of them kicking a ball around in a car park?

I don't think it is inappropriate in the bid video. I just find it an interesting difference in society and culture or something like that.

ENGLAND is clearly rattled that Australia is trying to take the World Cup from under its nose.

Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer says England, favourite to win hosting rights, is far from underestimating Australia's bid for sport's showpiece event in 2018.

The Fulham star yesterday attended the official launch in Canberra, along with Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill.

"I don't think at this stage they (England) are too over confident," Schwarzer said.

"They are relatively quiet on it. I think they know Australia is very capable of hosting such an event.

"They've obviously done their launch and release. Like anyone is, I think everyone has to be cautious at this stage."

Schwarzer said his Fulham teammates had not ribbed him at all about Australia's chances of either winning the 2018 cup or even hosting the event four years later.

"We are not talking about one World Cup here. We are talking about two and I definitely believe we're right in it," he said.

"It's going to be a very interesting process over the next 18 months, but we are all very confident.

"I don't think it really matters which one we win. What is important is that we win one of them.

"It is an amazing experience just as a player, as a nation, to have a football team involved in a World Cup let alone to host an event. None of us have ever had that experience of being in a host nation.

"I saw how it transformed Germany in 2006. I think nobody can really understand the magnitude of the game and what it would do to this country - not just for football but as a whole. Like it was mentioned today, the revenue it will create, the jobs it will create and just the impact on Australia.

"It could potentially be one of those World Cups that people will forever remember as well.

"There is always that political manouevring that goes on and obviously England and the other European teams are very keen for it to go back to Europe and they have a very strong influence on a lot of the other nations.

"From my point of view, I don't think it matters what bid we win as long as we win a bid."

Lucas Neill was also bullish about Australia's prospects.

"When the details come out and you start to read into it, you realise it's very achievable.

"Economically it's great. It's great for the country, it's great for tourism, it's great for business. But more importantly, it's great for football and the people of Australia."

I liked the video. Think it does the job, and is a far better ad for australia than any of the tourism adds i have seen recently

Awarding contracts to certain FIFA members' businesses (construction, hotels, catering, cleaning, events management, etc.) upon successful bid for the WC generally does the trick, I'm led to believe.  ;)  ;D
