A great tournament and I’ll admit I was one of the many that thought getting 1 point in the group stage was very likely. To make the round of 16 and make Argentina work hard for the win was a great ride to be on.

The players gave it all and left nothing in the tank, Arnie rallied them well and used some sound tactics

Goodwin had a good tournament and shows just having a crack increases your odds of making something happen. I can’t say Ryan had a good tournament, two games against two big opponents and he has made two crucial mistakes. Behich was outstanding and I have been a big critic of his but great tournament and the only player to successfully run at the Argies. The rest all can hold their heads up high and can be super proud of what they accomplished.

Felt for Mooy and Irvine in the last 20 of that game they were gassed and it was hard to get the ball out of our half. Hrustic is not my fav player and I thought was pretty poor when he came on with his options and hogging the ball and didn’t feed the attacking players enough. However there was no other viable option. We need to work on having better attacking midfielders, not sure Hrustic is the answer. Maybe young Fancios will fill the void.

Positive was how many young players have earned some valuable experience and will be so much better for the next Cup as long as we make it which should be easier with an extra auto spot.

An outstanding achievement from a team many had written off in the qualifying phase. They did themselves and the country proud. I'm looking forward to seeing this lot at the Asian Cup and i'm hoping the goodwill they have garnered flows through to the A-League. Hopefully everyone will get behind the Matildas and we can have a cracking World Cup on home soil next year.

Fantastic effort and never gave up. The Argies were very pleased to hold on

Garang - what a touch and oh so close. Can you imagine if that went in. Oh my we would have gone crazy
His positioning of his body is incredible. There was photo of him just after he hit and he managed to swivel his whole body around and every part of him was facing where he hit it. Incredible

Best bit was the look he gave Hrustic just after as Hrustic was whining he didn’t pass to him. It was only slight but it was who the farkkk are you

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Well, we had a average qualifying , but once we got to the Cup , the boys got to work , a very very good WC imho, a spot in the 16 ! Gadzooks , I thought the Argies might give us a French level touch up BUT no one told us apparently , dunno who the boss will be for the next Asian Cup, but his got a great squad on his hands …Goodonya boys

Bumped into Alou at Coogee Pavilion this arvo and I asked him what he thought of Garang’s last ditch effort, to which he replied: “He had one job, stick it in the net the dickhead!”

I laughed until I nearly wet myself, brotherly love is a wonderful thing eh? ?

Storm and Steeley were here too with McArthyyyyyy and showed us the boy’s post game pics with Messi, that’s an experience money can’t buy for sure. They apparently asked Leo if he fancied a swansong at Gosford, so over to you Mr P……. ;)

Alou will be training with our boys this week before heading back to Stutgart.

As much as everyone is fawning over Messi (which they should) - Martinez is the reason Argentina won Copa America and why I think they should be favourites for the World Cup. Debuting at a relatively late age in June 2021. Since then in his 23 appearances for Argentina since 2021 he has 16 clean sheets and only 1 loss (Saudi Arabia).

Rode our luck as long as possible, mostly playing dour low quality football. Nothing like Angeball.
Thought we'd get 1pt before the WC, hoped for 4pts. Didn't expect to get to the 16.

So while I'm negative about the playing style, it was great to see us push 2 of the top 10 teams and roll Tunisia.

Carn US and 2026. Might try my luck with the misso and go to it. Plenty of guys who will be at their peak then.
