WSW v NSW Police: "Not with-out a warrant"

Victory hit with same punishment as Wanderers from FFA after derby flares:

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has fined Melbourne Victory $50,000 and imposed a suspended three competition point deduction after finding the club guilty of bringing the game into disrepute, after multiple flares were let off during the Melbourne derby.

The punishment is identical to what Western Sydney received last week after some of their travelling fans let off flares at Etihad Stadium when the Wanderers took on the Victory.

FFA also stated that the punishment was not only for flares but for, "an alleged assault on TV news personnel outside the stadium, throwing missiles at a Melbourne City player and a Victoria Police officer, and altercations with police after the match."

The suspended points deduction will be in place for 12 months, starting from last Sunday.

“The behaviour of a number of Melbourne Victory supporters last Saturday night was deplorable and cast a shadow over what was a fabulous game of A-League football,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

“It’s staggering that these dangerous incidents happened just days after FFA had applied sanctions to the Western Sydney Wanderers because of the actions of some fans. The focus on fan behaviour could not have been more acute.

“If there is any bright note in this situation, it is the refreshing attitude shown by both clubs through their CEOs, coaches and players. They are saying ‘enough is enough’. As leaders and ambassadors of their clubs, they want to be part of the solution.”

Melbourne Victory will hold a press conference at 12:30pm to address the sanctions.

Excited to have tickets for the Derby on Saturday. Hoping to see the wanderers dip shits rip a flare and lose 3 points.

Could be win/win if they beat Sydney as well. Arnie hate will be growing

I think the RBB f**king this up is pretty much a given at this point. I'd genuinely be less surprised if we win 6-0 and if no matches this weekend are decided on refereeing errors ;-)

Stomping of Sully was & will never be forgotten.

From that day on always hated him. Might of said 'great save' a few times whilst he was a Mariner - but always hated him.

Dirty players will always leave a dirty taste in your mouth when you bring up their name, even long after they're gone.

Griffiths, Muscat etc. Reddy's no different.

Agree there. It's hard to support a player when he's been considered a villain and personal enemy of your own team for so long.
Football is funny like that. One thing against our team and we'll never forgive him for it - when really, plenty of players have had brain explosions and done something filthy, our team is no different. And he's not the only one to do so against this one team, but sometimes just one incident stands out.

Didn't we lose that SF (or draw when we needed to win)?

Amazing how after 10 years HAL refs still haven't figured out that sometimes players hurt each other off the ball

Article on the arse-wipe.

Reddy's debut Wanderers outing indicates he's ready:

Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne is in danger of being sidelined for the table-toppers' A-League home run, after Liam Reddy made a solid club debut in the Sydney derby.

Coach Tony Popovic dropped a selection bomb on Saturday night, dropping Redmayne to the bench for the first time this season in favour of veteran Reddy - while he slammed as "speculation" aFairfax Media report linking skipper Nikolai Topor-Stanley with a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.

The 1-1 draw at Allianz Stadium was a high-pressure fixture for the discarded Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper to play his first top-tier match in four months.

Reddy's feistiness earned him a first-half yellow card for flicking the ball into Matt Jurman's face, sparking an all-in melee.

It may have helped alter the game's momentum as Sydney FC lifted after early Wanderers' domination, but Reddy's overall display was assured and cool-headed.

The experienced 34-year-old made a number of impressive saves while being kept on his toes by in-form Sydney FC striker Matt Simon.

It could mean bad news for Redmayne, who had been Popovic's first-choice custodian all season.

"I just thought it was time to change something," Popovic said. "Not for change's sake, but Liam's been with us for about 10 weeks now.

"He's at the level we want, and in the last couple of weeks he's been at a level to give me a decision now.

"Prior to that he wasn't at that level.

"He came in and I thought he did a good job."
