Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

So to summarise:

Nikolai Topor-Stanley (so-called defender)
Donny de Groot (striker)
Sasho Petrovski (striker)
Angelo Costanzo (central defender)
Ljubo Milicevic (central defender)

And Branko Culina as the club’s new Technical Director to replace Ian Crook.

What Gary van Egmond builds ... Con will destroy!

hahaha so true

let's just hope we can get through this next little bit without any problems

I wish Sash well. He has not let us down and has worked very hard this season, putting to rest the poacher in the 6 yard box routine that he gets tagged with.

I hope he's out with too many yellows or a slight injury when we play the Jets!

The Jets squad is very dour and second rate, but then again, so is ours! It will be challenging for GVE to get this squad firing, and keep them all in one piece.

Cannot see Con's office at Parklea being overrun with sponsors wanting a part of that line up.  :tv:

COACH Gary van Egmond is adamant that Sasho Petrovski will be at the Jets when his A-League commitments with the Mariners are over, despite an offer from a Chinese club for the striker.

Petrovski, 33, signed a two-year deal with the Jets this week but has since been approached to join the Mariners' Asian Champions League group H rivals Tianjin Teda.

The Jets are already in danger of losing defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley, who is in Europe on a trial, but van Egmond said Petrovski was a definite starter.

"There was an opportunity in China for him, but he has signed a contract with us," van Egmond said.

"We are sympathetic to the fact that there was a chance he could have earned more money [in China], but the problem is finding a replacement player, and we do not have enough time for that.

"Had this been a month earlier we could have looked at something for him."

Meanwhile, the Jets have signed former Sydney FC left-back Nick Tsattalios to a six-month deal and are set to add at least two Newcastle-born players to the roster.

Mitchell Johnson, Peter Haynes and Joel Wood trialled this week and van Egmond confirmed two would be signed.

"We just have a little bit of red tape to get through before we release it," he said.

Johnson returned to soccer in November, quitting his job in the mines to join NSW Premier League club Leichhardt.

The 25-year-old midfielder graduated from the Australian Institute of Sport in 2000 and played more than 70 games in the former national league.

Haynes plays for Broadmeadow Magic and is community football officer for Northern NSW Football.

Wood recently returned from a short playing stint in Hong Kong.

In other news, Serbian Nemanja Simovic will not be offered a contract.

I've heard good things about Mitch.  Apparently he is a good striker of the ball but delivers the ball wide of the mark sometimes  :p

No, of course not  ::)

I'd be happy if Sasho left for China after the group stages of the ACL, because

a) Jets get a transfer fee
b) We get rid of a player 90% of Jets A-League fans hate
c) Gives us a player to use to qualify for the round of 16; and
d) To quote GVE "Sasho is not the sharpest tool in the shed"

To be fair, neither is GVE.

An addition today (8/2/09):

"The Newcastle Jets have this morning signed Italian forward Fabio Vignaroli for a 6 month period, which will see the veteran play for the Hunter based club in the upcoming AFC Champions League 2009 tournament.

Vignaroli, 32, most recently played for S.S. Lazio in the Serie A in 2007/08 where he made 9 appearances for the Biancocelesti, and has also enjoyed extended spells with the likes of A.S. Bari, Bologna F.C. 1909, Parma F.C. and Modena F.C. in Italys top flight club competition.

The striker did spend a period at Greek Super League outfit Panthrakikos F.C. in 2008; however, after a brief time at the Komotini club he began trialling across Europe, particularly at Kilmarnock F.C. and Dundee F.C. in Scotland".

Well at least he isn't an arrogant and self-centered Judas like Sasho is

Sounds like a good addition.

I'm a bit worried to be honest.  The guy has not played football in at least a year.  Has Jardel written all over it.

Neither is Joel Griffiths. David Beckham doesn't seem to be the smartest bloke either. Who gives a shit how smart he is as long as he can score goals.

Also, LOL at saying GVE isn't arrogant.

Agree. Considering his complete lack of game time, they could surely have done better
