Done deal....2.5 million over 4 years plus 10% of transfer....and all at the age 19.

Well done Jimmy, well done!

Will make it harder to fit in the national 20's and 23's commitments, however will help his first team chances as long as he gets regular game time.

........This will be a steep climb however!

Good prospect but IMO has been over-rated and found out by many teams now.  He needs to build up some strength if he's going to improve.

Hopefully (for his sake) he hasn't gone too early and sits on the bench or plays in the reserves.

Jets home some serious recruiting next season, you can see them buying a few rejects.  North gone, A Griffiths gone, Holland gone, whose next?

Covic.....they don't want him.....and at the moment neither does any other A-League club.

Is Jgriffos the only one "certain" of hanging about next year would surely have the big escape clause and imo will also leave givin the chance .
The only other good player they got is Elrich whats his contract status like?? ??

This could in theory be a huge blessing for the scum that there whole teams leaving sure they wont have much chemistry (but its not helping em much now is it) but its a good chance to start fresh If i was a scum fan i'd be stoked at the thought of dumping all the crap except with con still doing the shopping i think they still gonna be in trouble tho its hard to imagine a worse bunch of players then the lot they got now.

Constantine issues call to arms for Jets fans
BY ROBERT DILLON

NEWCASTLE Jets owner Con Constantine has urged Novocastrians to get behind the embattled A-League champions in their hour of need.

"All I want is our supporters to stay with the club, because this is the time when the players really need them the most when things are not going as well as they normally do," Constantine said.

"It's all right to come to the games when the team is winning week after week.

"But now it's a situation where the players and the club need some support.

"This is the right time to do that."

Having captivated the city with their fairytale surge to last season's grand final victory against the Central Coast Mariners, the Jets have crashed to earth in their title defence.

With six rounds left in the season, they are last by four points and 10 points adrift of the top four.

And Newcastle's position on the competition ladder has had a predictable impact on attendances, which have dwindled since the season kicked off.

In seven games at EnergyAustralia Stadium, the Jets' average crowd is just 10,485 a decline of almost 3700 per game since last season.

Their past two home games, against Adelaide (7136) and Sydney (7872), have produced Newcastle's smallest home turnouts in more than two years.

Constantine was hopeful some parochial support can help the Jets turn their season around, starting tomorrow night when they host Melbourne at EAS.

And he refused to concede that Newcastle were dead and buried in the race for the finals, although they would need to win virtually all of their remaining games to qualify.

"There's still a chance there," Constantine said. "It's a very slight, very small chance, but you never know."

Constantine nonetheless acknowledged that Jets management had made some mistakes this season and would need to learn from them.

"I think some of the players we have recruited haven't been up to scratch and haven't performed," Constantine said.

"We haven't been very lucky with our imports.

Still blaming the players! Con has learnt nothing.

I don't think he's actually blaming the players  -he's just moaning they haven't performed to the A-League level. That is his and GVE's mistake more than anything else.

You cannot expect a B or C grade level player to knock back a half decent offer from Con or GVE to join the Jets, goodness knows what sort of spin the Jets put on the A-League to a foreigner or their agent. Can imagine claims like "Australia's Premier Football Comp", "one of the best in Asia", & the doozy...."We have qualified for next year's ACL".  ::)

Gee, if I was such a hack pro player and got that sort of offer if I was living in Ecuador or hanging around crack houses in Portugal, I'd jump at the offer too! :p

Definitely the level of A-League has lifted since the start of the first season, and so too has the level of professionalism required to manage a team and run it. Con & his mob are sorely starting to show they cannot manage it all.

Our 15 minutes of fame this week must be really niggling the shit out of Con & his players and I hope the pricks choke on it.

Newcastle Jets defender Antun Kovacic accused of urinating in hotel room

December 18, 2008 A-LEAGUE club Newcastle Jets are investigating allegations defender Antun Kovacic urinated in a Brisbane motel room on Saturday night.

Kovacic, who has made three appearances in the Jets' first team this season, played in the youth team's 3-2 loss to Queensland at Ballymore on Saturday.

Newcastle newspaper The Herald reported on Thursday that Kovacic went out later that night, became intoxicated and on returning to the motel urinated throughout his room.

Jets chief executive John Tsatsimas confirmed the club was carrying out an investigation but would not comment on the nature of the incident.

There has been a matter that we're investigating, Tsatsimas said on Thursday.

We've given an opportunity to the player to come back to us in relation to the matter and we'll leave it at that at this point in time until the specifics are known and verified.

Kovacic, 27, and his manager Richie Hinton have been given 14 days to respond.
