TWG understands that Newcastle Jets marquee striker Edmundo Zura is on the verge of ending his association with the A-League club.

Despite a denial by a Jets official, the 25-year-old Ecuador international is believed to have made the decision after a meeting two days ago with club hierarchy, including owner Con Constantine.

Sources close to the centre-forward confirmed to TWG that the breaking point for Zura - who has played eight matches without scoring in the A-League - was not having his wife and child with him in Newcastle during his four-month stay, despite repeated assurances from the club that their arrival was imminent.

It's also believed Zura had a fall-out with Joel Griffiths, the clubs marquee signing for next season.

The striker will walk away from the Jets with six months remaining on his contract and has relinquished the chance to play AFC Champions League football next season.

Zura is expected to be on the team sheet and play his final match today against Queensland Roar at Energy Australia Stadium, before officially quitting the reigning A-League champions Monday and boarding a flight back home to Ecuador.
