ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

. suits them just fine - let us consider Sydney for example*:
  • two designated players completely exempt
  • players with 4 or more years at the club can have part of their salary exempt
    • this means that all the Mariners alumni (except Musti) are eligible for a 'loyalty' concession at Sydney!
    • only 50% of Grant's salary would count towards the cap
  • 4 U23 youth graduates don't need to count towards the cap
    • and as we have seen this season, apparently they don't even need to appear on the bench
  • all this means that there is plenty of 'cap space' left to outbid everybody else for a player like Musti or, say a grubby-Penha
. contrast this with the Mariners who may be entitled to youth concessions but we need that salary to count toward our cap floor

* i don't know if this relates to the current season as the APL doesn't make these things very visible (or it could just be my lack of internet skillz)
Whatever the strategic aims of the salary cap are, competition equalisation is surely not one of them when there is such a range of concessions. I think one year, when City had Cahill, it was reported that the City wage bill (including the subsidies they got for Cahill) were north of $8m, MV and bling were in the $5m - $6m range, and both ourselves and Jest were spending well under $2m.

Throw in that there appears to be no policing of the cap anyway - afaik the only reported breaches over the years have been uncovered by journalists (and indeed allegations in the Lowy days that the FFA were actively engaged in aiding bling to bury their breaches),

Yep and the Drive Byes would have plenty of skeletons in closets and still couldn't make the finals.

Hi Everyone, I’ve seen info that the
All Stars. Barca game will be held 3 days before the GF ? Any thoughts on that ? Just a bit nervy considering there would be some training get together beforehand plus the risk of injury to our players . A worthy distraction ?? More of an upset than benefit ?? Great experience I guess . In two minds

I'd love to get Victory in the final and put a real number on them, just obliterate them like they did to Adelaide

I’d rather avoid Victory if we can, they’ve had our number this year and been able to overwhelm our midfield. In terms of who I would want to play in the final its
Wellington
WU
Adelaide
City
Victory

last two are tight but while city are dangerous they’ll also offer up more chances against them.

It’s really simple and has been stated clearly - no one from the grand final teams will be in the all stars game. No conspiracy, no tricks, each team has nominees that were up for voting and the ones from the grand finalists will still be recognised as fan picks but not involved.
