So concludes my third season as a Mariner. I love this club dearly and the fans and community are what truly make us great. Thanks to everyone here for being so welcoming and it's terrific to read what everyone has to say.
Tonight truly stung, watching goal after goal fly in, I thought I had become numb to losing but not tonight.
I will be a Mariner till I die, our loss to Green Gully in the soaking rain being taunted and shoved into mud saw to that. Chanting "Tony Walmsley football genius" when we were 3-0 up in Geelong is another thing I certainly won't forget. But as a relatively new fan, and one who has been a member for two of my three seasons here, what enjoyment can I say I have derived from our on field performance in my three years? Seeing us beat a horrific Glory side in Walmsley first league game, watching Luis Garcia tear the Nix apart in Auckland, a brief but glorious 92 minutes while we lead Victory in Geelong and seeing a 17 year old goalkeeper make his debut and do well, seeing Harry Ascroft run forward and thump home a goal so we drew to Sydney, the comeback against Glory in Okon's first game, Pains first worldie in Adelaide, seeing Alistair Bray do so well in his only game, beating Glory while Slater ranted about how we shouldn't be in the league, seeing Reddy be waved off by Monty, our three game winning streak including Roy's tremendous chip against the Wanderers, beating an inept Jets side and Trent's rise to the A-League, beating Sydney FC, Wellington and Perth and believing for a few weeks. These moments and sharing each and every loss, win or draw with all of you is what makes me proud to be a Mariner.
For my three seasons I have two spoons, 8th place and a knock out in the FFA Cup by two NPL clubs while never seeing my team win in person. Mike Charlesworth, Shaun and Mike Mulvey I dearly hope you get the next season right, for what are we offering our old fans and members let alone new ones? If we are not viable soon, if we cannot spend more soon, I fear for our future. On Twitter tonight we are seen as the reason promotion and relegation is needed, our ineptitude should be punished as one put it. Without the TV money how would we ever pay our bills let alone get back to the top flight? Our future is in your hands Mr Mulvey, I pray that you are up to the job.
