I didn't close it because I "don't like it" but because there was so much abuse flying around and over the top insults, I got a heap of complaints, the quickest fix was to shut it down and try get back to it later and address the issue.

Feel for you with this - if people can't discuss politics without resorting to abuse and insults, then a special thread isn't going to help them or the board.
