Just as an aside ... New York and heaps of other states had what they called closed elections in that you had to register by 1 October to vote in the primary .... Clinton won most states with the closed voting and lost almost all were states had open Sanders won... and the media about 90 % to 10 % ... and the debates ...

She won the votes .... but many say the process was sssssoooooooo one sided and he came from nowhere ....

I hope not but I think Trump will tear Clinton apart and that is bad for the world...

Explain what was wrong with the process.

Explain why it's wrong that the candidate who won 3 million more votes is going to get the nomination.

Explain why it's wrong that the candidate who won two thirds of the contests is going to get the nomination.

Explain why it's wrong that someone who has worked for Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party for 46 years should attract the support of the vast majority of the party establishment against a guy who literally joined the party in December and has never raised a cent for other Democrat candidates.

Not at all true.

Let's leave aside the fact that the rules around open and closed were set before anyone nominated for anything - they're locked in miles out and if you don't know them that's your problem, not the problem of the candidate who wins under them.

There's very little difference in the number of delegates won in open and semi-open contests vs closed and semi-closed contests. We're talking a difference of Hillary taking 55%:45% to taking 54.7%:45.3%.

Where Bernie dominated wasn't open contests vs closed, it was caucuses rather than primaries.

Sanders took 63% of delegates determined in caucuses.

So he did best where you might have to be there for hours (so you have to be a die-hard to go there) and where they vote by a head count. There's no secret ballot, so people can be intimidated into voting a particular way.

The most inclusive way to run an election is to run an open primary, because it doesn't require you to be a registered Democrat, it doesn't require you to be in a meeting for hours and it doesn't require you to tell anyone else how you're voting.

Clinton took 59% of delegates that were determined by open primaries and 58% of delegates determined by primaries generally.

More broadly, she took 55% of all delegates. Her lead is massive.

Bernie spent the early part of the campaign complaining about the Democratic establishment shutting him out, and now he's asking them to back him rather than Hillary because he couldn't win enough votes in his own right.

Seriously, Bernie was beaten fair and square under rules that have been well understood for a long time.

He lost. End of.

Yeah....I read an article from Michael Moore which basically argued that Trump's supporters are pumped to be voting for him - they'll be the ones up at 6am to queue outside the voting booths.
Hillary? Nobody actually wants to vote for her - it's more of a vote against Trump. In Australia voting against a party defines elections. In the US, I'd imagine people would rather just not bother rather than vote for the least worst option. Trump's supporters are the ones going to be ramping up the propaganda and egging their mates on to go vote for him - and that energy could well make all the difference, when motivating people to just bother to vote is half the challenge over there.

Anybody know what checks are in place to stop a madman president launching a nuke? Because he is somebody who will want to do it (given that he's already advocated for it).

Concerning about his comments about the family of the fallen soldier, saying how the woman is on stage and not speaking, so she probably isn't allowed to speak. Absolutely disgusting - problem is, his supporters wouldn't see anything wrong with that comment at all. So it won't hurt him.

It's terrifying just how utterly bereft of reason people are in supporting him. In stirring up emotion he's convinced millions of people to throw reason out the window. Thought I've always found it bizarre that for all their 'constitutional right to own a gun' BS, they're not the slightest bit concerned that Trump seeks to stop freedom of speech by advocating for his supporters to bash protesters and opponents.

As for assassination.....imagine how much worse that would make it if it happens if it's from somebody with an Arabic or Islamic background.....

His problem is it is hurting him. while the red states (Republicans) are going more his way the Blue states are getting further away from him and a lot of the swing states are going the same way.

Just after both conventions I had it at line ball at 269 electoral college votes each,

Current polling would indicate that Clinton is very likely to win California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin for 287 electoral college votes.

On top of this she is likely to win Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and North Carolina for a further 59 electoral college votes.

That gives her a 346 electoral college votes when she only needs 270..
