ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Give Nik another go

I actually thought Mrdja looked quite lively....of course he looks lazy compared to Matty....but to me he looked reasonably on his game and I did fancy him to score.
Hopefully he's turned the corner because although he has deserved the slagging he's kopped this season i'd much rather be giving him a pat on the back each week and urging LM to resign him.
This bloke was a quality striker and i'd love him to show some of that quality again and drive us through to our first ever grand final win.

It would be the least he could do!

Interesting stats: - top scorers for CCM all teams:
Heyman -- 8 in 7 games, incl hattrick & a brace of braces;
Nikas -- 7 incl a brace & a spot
Simon -- 6
Mrdja -- 6 incl a hattrick.
Admittedly 5 of those have been scored in the Youth, but considering that a month ago he'd scored FA, and missed a wide-open chance against FC, a little bit of promise there perhaps.
Let's hope so, we need all our strikers scoring so that Matty doesn't get all the defenders' attention.
Also worthy of note is Kwassie being on the next line of scorers with 2 of the ladies (Van Den Burgh & Fletcher) -- 3.

I don't know if I have enough time on this earth for Disco to impress ... I calculate that I have only 35 years left!  :'(

You should be so lucky, I reckon I'm into my last 20. The only problem is I don't know just where in that last 20!
I don't care whether Disco impresses, just as long as he keeps scoring, preferably in the HAL.
Let's face it, a 6-inch tap-in counts exactly the same as a 50 yd screamer.

mmmm... perhaps "impress" was the wrong word to use .... perhaps I should have said act and look like a striker with desired results! :)

With the speculation about Matty being injured this weekend, this could be his best chance yet to do exactly that.
Dare I say it, and you all know how I feel about giving Nik a fair go, if he doesn't take it then he may not get another. In that case I may have to stop posting in this thread!

Mrdja's scoring...

He scored but to be fair both were very poor defending.  Take nothing away from Nik he had to hit the target but would he have done so well against better opposition?

The quality of the opposition isn't his fault. He can only play against what's put in front of him.
Let's face it, a month ago he would have cocked them up. What he's doing now is far better than what he was doing.
Lawrie reckoned that once he got his first goal, more would follow. Once again it looks like Lawrie got it right.

Defending smending.
He scored a brace tonight and they were not tap ins. Both outside the box and
struck well and cleanly, he worked hard and deserved his goals.
Good strikes from a striker taking his chances, can't ask more than that.

He also impressed with a much better first touch and hold up work this week, and looks centred. Being - not in his head - the pain he has gone through with his form has clearly helped him to grow and start playing from his heart not his ego. And he looked fantastic for it. It may not have been easy, but pain is often the best teacher.

Congratulations Nik.

I was impressed tonight and loved dancing round the living room with my young son finally screaming out MRDJA!!!! Again.

Nik is now the top scoring male at the club this season with 8, all scored in the last month. Only Michelle Heyman has more with 10.
Shit I hope he can keep it going.
