Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

For me, there is no debate.  Country every single time for the rest of forever.  The Mariners could win everything available for the next 5 seasons and it wouldn't be 2% of the feeling I had tonight when Jesus scored that goal.  Or when Harry scored against Croatia.  Or when Timmy did his thing against Japan.....

To be there tonight and listen to the cacophony of noise around the stadium during that 20 minute period where we systematically destroyed Uzbekistan..... that is the feeling in football that cannot be beaten.  Club football, whilst having amazing moments of its own (e.g. Super Sunday last season) cannot ever hope provide that.  To me, country is the pinnacle, the ultimate honour.

so.Hypothetical question

2 free tickets to Man Utd v 'any opponent of your choice' in the Champions League Final

or

2 free tickets to an Australian world cup game v 'any opponent of your choice'?

I reckon if this poll was started on the night of CCM qualifying for the champions league final and the national team had been in hibernation for a while the poll result would be at least reversed.

Australia vs Spain or Arsenal vs Man Utd hmmm, hmmm Australia vs Spain could only happen once every 4 years at least, but it would be hard to resist Arsenal vs Man Utd

Club for me as well.

I love my country as much as the next person.  But I guess you get to see your club play more often, so have a closer bond.

Club for me - I base this on how I felt after West Ham lost the FA Cup Final on penalties '06 and the Mariners lost the GFs to Sydney '06 and Scum '08 vs Australia losing on penalties to Japan Asian Cup '07 and England losing on penalties to Portugal '06

Winning a big game is just as good for either, but those club loses seem to hurt just a bit more.

As far as the players go, the clubs pay their wages and loan them to the respective national teams, which is why the FA pay the clubs compo when the players are injured with them...

when timmy scored that goal...wow! it was so exciting
a lot better then any mariners goal ever tbh
Almost as good when Harry

another perspective
think about this one- heartbreak
Mariners GF (either one, probs V3) vs Italy match
Italy match hurt that bit more (despite actually attending GF in V3)

Egypt vs. Aus who would you support? (iirc ur ethnically egyptian?)

dont care what your answer is as i can understand both sides just would like to know etc.
this is the really confusing question...
I think i would support Egypt especially considering current state of the teams
BUT
if I was a player- I would choose to play for Australia. (know why?)
make sense?

I sunk into a proper depression for a good fortnight following that game.....
that was one of the worst feelings of my life.
Not to mention World Cup Round 16 >>> Post season cup final
also I hate Grosso much more than Griffiths/Holland
thanks for ur post b4- it made me realise how much Australia >>> Mariners

Mate, it could be Manchester United vs. Juventus at Old Trafford with Del Piero retiring after the game and I would take the Australia tickets 10 times out of 10.  Country _every single time_.

Arab - I understand what you're saying about a club's epic run in a cup, I've ridden that wave quite a few times with Man U, during which I've copped the highs (99 and 08) and the lows (being knocked out in 07 by Milan and 03 by Madrid), not to mention the Mariners (the run to the final in V1 and Super Sunday in V3, compared with _that_ Thursday night against NZ in V2)...... and as amazing as they were and as much as they all mean to me, they will never compare to any time that Australia steps on the field.

I also know what you're getting at when you're talking about the NT being in hibernation for a while - we copped that a few years ago when we didn't play for 13 months..... yet during that time (Man U won another title), the main thing I thought about was when would we play again??  I've been to Thailand, Malaysia (instead of Vietnam, long story), Japan, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney more times than I care to count for this team, and I hope to add to it until I'm physically unable to travel anymore..... and I compare that with the feeling I had in Tianjin just a few weeks ago.  No doubt I will travel a ridiculous distance to see the Mariners play again (an ACL quarter final in Iran would do nicely), and whilst the journey is more than worthwhile, and the thrill of seeing your club play in somewhere ludicrously unfamiliar is something you'll never forget - it just doesn't compare to walking into a stadium in the middle of Thai Suburbia *shudders*, freezing cold Yokohama, or one of the best stadiums in the world in Suncorp and seeing that sea of gold, full well knowing that there might be 500 of you (Bangkok), or there might be 2000 of you (Japan), or there's 85 000 of you (Uruguay in Sydney) who are there for the one thing.  To see _your country_, the one thing above all others that can define who you are on the world stage, take to the field to represent an entire nation of peoples in the best game of all.....  what could top that??

Anyone who saw me during and after the Uruguay game in 05, or when Cahill scored against Oman, or when Jesus scored last night - and then to compare that to my celebrations at a Mariners game..... they will tell you what means more to me.

Good debate this.

I suppose all of us debating this are quite pathetic really. You know when your best and worst feelings ever are all related to what 11 grown men do with a football in the space of 90 mins.

I plead guilty.

:)

Wouldn't have it any other way.

Seriously, outside of the birth of a child and/or your wedding day (for you older and married types on here), can you name something that tops the feelings football gives you??

Yes, a whole litany of activities that provide both short term and long term satisfaction in higher quantities.

Can some of those who've voted club over country elaborate on why, please?
