Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Which one, Club or Country, rates higher in your books.

For me, It'll always be country. I was a fan of Australia long before the Mariners even existed.

The world cup is an event which can not be matched by any club event.. Nothing can even come close to matching or comparing with the Japan, Uruguay and Croatia games..

I used to be all for country. But not since the loss against china at anz stadium. Was a massive waste of time and money. Due to the fact it was meant to have a European based squad that ended up being an a-league squad.

Country first.

The '93 and '97 Socceroos campaigns were my first tastes of football going mainstream here. Everybody knew about it, everybody talked about it, everybody watched it. What's more, everybody actually cared, even if only for a while.

In the bad days of the NSL, I think it's possible that the Socceroos provided the single unifying motive to keep on at the football gig in this country. If it were just for the sake of the NSL itself I think people would have given up and walked away.

Fast forward to the '05 campaign and the '06 World Cup and the Socceroos were Australia's everything for two and a bit weeks. But the A-League is now in a position to build on that and grow, and we have the Socceroos to thank.

Simply put - it was the Socceroos that showed the way for the game in this country and they continue to do so.

They were our full strength squads though.
Plus the GGA and the fanatics both suck arse. Bay 16 is probably better at the moment.

I love my country (both of them).....but I live and breath my clubs (both of them) every week for a large part of the year every year.Internationals are few and far between by comparison. So for that reason alone I'd have to say club.

Besides the Scottish team is full of tossers who I hate on an almost weekly basis and so is the Aussie side when it's dominated by home based players.

Love the jersey but not half the c**ts wearing it!!

Country first. I would give up playing 500 games for CCM or Man Utd to play ONCE for my country. I fully recognise the massive pressure for players to put Club first, but gaffers like Moyes can get well and truly get stuffed.

This is similar to an argument I have with idiot Queenslanders, who would rather play for Qld than Aust. What a lot of dog-turd that is. The term "Idiot Queenslanders" is an oxymoron, it should be noted.

I love my club, but I am Australian FIRST and foremost.

If you were looking at it from a players point of view only I agree with you.To most professional players the club they play for is just their place of work.

Fans are different.Maybe in this country though we haven't got that inbred fanatical culture about our clubs yet. They are only a few years old after all.

I don't think many fans in Europe would put their country ahead of their club.

I'd be interested to see what Happy thinks about this one.

For me, there is no debate.  Country every single time for the rest of forever.  The Mariners could win everything available for the next 5 seasons and it wouldn't be 2% of the feeling I had tonight when Jesus scored that goal.  Or when Harry scored against Croatia.  Or when Timmy did his thing against Japan.....

To be there tonight and listen to the cacophony of noise around the stadium during that 20 minute period where we systematically destroyed Uzbekistan..... that is the feeling in football that cannot be beaten.  Club football, whilst having amazing moments of its own (e.g. Super Sunday last season) cannot ever hope provide that.  To me, country is the pinnacle, the ultimate honour.

You're just all emotional atm !  :p

But seriously you were following your country before your club team was even in existence. It's a bit different for us expats I think.

I can't argue with your examples above..............brilliant nights all of them.....I was at the Uruguay one as well.

From a personal point of view....UEFA Cup 1986-87

Rnd 1  Lens                  0-1(a) 2-0(h) agg 2-1 DUFC
Rnd 2  Uni Craiova        3-0(h) 0-1(a) agg 3-1 DUFC
Rnd 3  Hadjuk Split        2-0(h) 0-0(a) agg 2-0 DUFC
QF      Barcelona            1-0(h) 2-1(a) agg 3-1 DUFC
SF      Munchengladbach 0-0(h) 2-0(a) agg 2-0 DUFC
Final  Gothenburg          0-1(a) 1-1(h) agg 1-2 Gothenburg

Nothing has ever surpassed that run of games for me and probably never will.

I suspect that someone like GP for example would feel exactly the same way should Fulham ever go on a European run.......GP??

And what if  CCM went on a run like that to the final of the champions league ?

This A-league of ours is set up as sports entertainment. The fact that it rarely entertains doesn't take away from the fact that it is a artificial league. Having said that though, our particular club represents us quite well. It gave us an identity as the Central Coast.
Even still, clubs don't represent us nearly as much as Australia represents us. The economic benefits that come with doing well in a World Cup grew from the desire and passion of merely wanting to be the best.

In Australia, the clubs exist to make a profit. They have flow on benefits. Watching CCMFC is highly entertaining, emotional, I love it. But the same is true of Godfather part II or most movies. They are made for profit.
Australian national team's raison d'etre is to win on behalf of our nation. That is why Country is far greater than Club in my estimation.

For me, country over club everytime. The Mariners are a huge, huge part of my life and no words can describe how I feel about our club. But watching Australia play gets me like no other Football match can.

I am never more proud to be an australian than sitting in a home crowd watching our NT. It's the ultimate.

i thought this was regarding the club vs country argument where managers *cough* David Moyes *cough* dont let their players out on international duty. Thats why i put country

but i support club more, although, Country isnt too far behind
