CCM vs Snowtown FC elimination final leg 1

Last game of the season we threw every bit of energy at them, pressed and pressured every ball and rolled them. Great strategy but over 90mins has obvious risks with errors and tiredness kicking in and can't do it all game every game. We showed we are a champion side by the fact we altered tactics this game in the 2nd half. We can play well in different ways, and intelligently as needed.
Adelaide were always going to try and throw a few punches and tricks in a semi and we needed to be measured in our approach after a point to not get sucker punched.

I expect to go into the 2nd leg with a similar mindset. Roll over the top of them as much as possible, get a few goals in, then let them throw themselves at us and counter when they inevitably open up as the game, and the finals, slips away from them.

3 games v adelaide this season so far - only 1 goal scored against us in reality. We gifted them the 2nd goal through a handball in the box.
Season aggregate so far 10-2.

It's still a finals game next week and we've won nothing yet. But at home, with a full stadium (or close to it) and with all the belief, tactics and ability we have - I'm chomping at the bit, can't wait.

Definitely the correct tactics but so stressful to watch.
Two early goals next week please for the sake of my heart.

A couple of things I noticed that may be of interest.

For those saying Kaltak should have kept his arms behind his back. It may be ok when trying to block a shot or a cross, but it would be impossible to do while having a physical, moving contact with an opposition striker and not end up on your arse. I much prefer defenders to stay on their feet.

Adelaide seemed to crowd Nizzy and give him zero space to move which effectively shut him down. Meanwhile this left more space for Ballard who took brilliant advantage of it and had his best game of the season. Getting better and more consistent with every game.

It was difficult to pick up but it looked like Cummings definitely faked with his expected left foot to hit to the near post while sliding it past Gaucci with his weaker right. Very subtle but Gaucci was good enough to see it and be taken in which definitely put him off balance. Cummings is a much better footballer than many think. If he goes we will miss him massively.

Regardless, Adelaide still are the biggest divers and one of the dirtiest teams in the comp this year. Has to be Veart's culture and coaching.

Yeah, they have sunk really low over the past few seasons. I used to like watching Adelaide but they're taking cheating to a whole new level. I'm ropeable they got away with so much last night.

Lopes first 10 minutes kicks a ball almost out of McGarry's hand when he's bending down to pick it up for a throw in and later tried to scratch Sammy's face.
Isaias elbow to the back of Fazz head.
Warland for mine deliberately kicked Moresche.
Halloran late first half takes out McGarry (?) as he's about to get in behind and in slow mo looks like he stomped his foot, you could tell it was frustration.
ALL the fouls on Beni.
St Goodwin could have been given about 4 but it seems he's a protected species nowadays
All of that and nothing.

Kudos to our guys for keeping their cool.

That was me who typed that and I disagree with this comment. Players do it week in, week out, moving or not moving, no problem. I saw a local 18As player do it today.

You or I would probably fall over without our arms but these guys are athletes, and in this case a professional athlete.

Who was the main commentator last night? I thought he was good and him and McBreen probably the best combo. There was a good amount of enthusiasm, actually talking about the game instead of banging on about random stats. That sort of stuff is for pre and post game shows that we don't have. The only thing I think is missing still is some good analysis of the tactics and basically what's going on in the game other than a passes to b, b passes to c, gets tackled by d, etc etc.

I'm with Ancient on this one, it's ridiculous trying to play with your arms behind you. Referees should be capable of discretion, especially with VAR available. The old rule was ball to hand didn't count, hand to ball was a....handball. It's gone too far.

Yep, it’s pretty obvious to 99.9999% of people when a hand ball is intentional.

I’m a strong believer the current interpretation of the rule within the A-League is to create more free kicks and penalties which equals more goals and more exciting plays near opposition goal mouth, etc.

They literally rationalise and interpret to help stimulate excitement, whilst also pissing off the team and fans supporting the team of which the call goes against.

they’ve gotten a lot better since Mauk left. I think what you saw last night was more out of desperation and knowing they needed every trick in the book to try and contain us. Isaais was his usual self and I don’t know how VAR didn’t intervene when he elbowed Farrell in the back of the head.

While watching that game I literally said to myself, oh it's Halloran diving, one of the few left from the Mauk Olympic high board 11.

Referees using discretion is the biggest problem in our league at the moment. It is creating way too much inconsistency.

The handball law is clear on that penalty given. Rightly or wrongly it was a handball by the laws. Referee cannot use their “discretion “ to change that.

And most players, as a result of the law, have changed the way they defend in the box with their body shape. Those who have not have been punished as a result. Some more than once.

If most players can adapt then the others should as well. If local league players can adapt then professionals should most definitely. Until the laws are changed you either adapt or continue to give away penalties.

Agree with all of that.

I'm saying I'd rather see the rule amended than the current situation with players doing an awkward hands behind the back waddle. For now though it does seem that's what's required, personally I think it's over the top.

So should all players change the way they jump, hands by their sides to ensure they don't accidentally hit someone in the face?

Had a family wedding to attend so had to check the score updates when I could and got happier as the drinks started kicking in.

Had my phone out on the dance floor as we hit 100mins hanging on for the win. Then a couple of songs later.

Whoa, we're half way there
Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand (Monty), we'll make it, I swear
Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer
