Took Aaron to see his neurosurgeon today and he strongly advised Aaron to never play any kind of contact sport. He may suffer a cerebral haemorrhage if he has a hard knock to the head by either a ball or another player. Needless to say he isnt too happy about it.

Could some kind of headgear, similar to Petr Cech's, allow him to play Football?

Best thing is that he is here with you mate - sad for him that he cant play a contact sport (assume that means cricket too?)

Thanks mate, yeah it could have been much worse. Even though the doc said he shouldn't play any contact sport, he said he can play basketball, squash, cricket and tennis. IMO, its safer for him to wear headgear and be a keeper in football than to play basketball and cop a stray elbow to the side of his head... very odd.

I was going to mention it to the doc as we have already decided if he was cleared he should wear it anyway. But when the doc stipulated no and the reason why, we kinda thought better of it and are hoping next year will be a better option for him.

Due to the surgery Aarons brain has room to move and even a slight blow to the head can cause a bleed. There is also a chance the tumour will regrow.

Maybe though he can get on board with a team of young ones, become an assistant coach? Can keep up his fitness and still be involved in a team etc. I'm sure an u8's or something would love something like that!

Just an update on Aaron.

He has recently been cleared to return to football as the removal of the tumor and recovery has been better than they hoped for. He shouldn't header balls but being a keeper that shouldnt really be a problem. He will however have to compensate for the loss of eyesight.

Unfortunately due to severe loss of vision in his left eye and the loss of all left hand peripheral vision in his right he will never be able to legally drive a car, which is worse than not being able to play sport IMO.

If he cant head the ball, he could still play at the back for CCM LOL
