Asian Champions League 2008 - 'official thread'

Oh yeah, not sure if anyone has posted this but in the same Telegraph article today (the one about us being rated 7th in that AFC report thing), it also mentioned that there's still going to be only 2 spots for HAL teams in the new/revamped ACL... until the HAL expands.

The rule is apparently the number of teams qualifying cannot be more than one third of the league. So hopefully there can be an extra spot next season when expansion happens.

Hope this isn't old news to everyone. It was a brief sentence or 2 at the end of the article

So between now and then, no games?

haven't you heard? there's a whole bunch of 'eighth-finals' for match day 6 1/2 and match day 6 3/4 including teams from other parts of the solar system between now and then. adelaide's drawn jupiter united who gained a wildcard into the spot. aurelio vidmar's organising massive pressure chambers for the players to acclimatise for the away leg.

FFS...

fractured foot? HTFU - i'm going on crutches, you can too!

admittedly i don't have a fracture, just a nasty sprain (though the doctor looked at my x-rays and was surprised and pointed to the fibula and said 'i thought you'd snapped it right there' because of all the swelling).

Holly cr*p, you would have yelped if it was broken... Have fun tonight and give Jedi a huge cheer.  :eek:verhead:

I *did* yelp, and worse! :(

it f**king hurt (and still does, depending on what i do with it - my early morning slash is very painful as all the blood goes rushing into it, and standing up for any length of time isn't good either, but i'll tough it out tonight).

antlers, then either kuruvchi or ali daeyi's club saipa.

that's before they meet any of urawa, al qadsia, gamba or al karama in the final.

they've done very well so far, and their improved tactical nous this year may help quite a lot - they're hard to beat at home or away.

Well I thought last week's game in Japan was a beauty but last night (Adelaide vs Kashima Antlers) topped even that!

Recorded it while at the Marinators GM, I sat down at 10:40pm to watch, thinking 'I bet I fall asleep through most of this' - but no! Hardly a blink!

It was riveting for 95 mins.  Galekovic simply sensational, Doddy had a huge game, Reid a great asset, even Agostino did his job - and the Ogmonster and Costanzo were under great pressure and came through!

Lawrie should show the lads the DVD of the last 10 mins of both legs, and analyse how to play into extra time.

On to Uzbekistan for the Reds. Don't drink the water.

That would be good, but i believe that showing the lads how to play in injury time would be more beneficial

Congratulations to adelaide. Magnificent effort and what a game.

I read today that if they can get through their semis they are in the WCC as Japan already have a spot due to hosting rights and therefore the highest finishing non-Nippon clun qualifies.
