Just watched South Melbourne and Gold Coast City and South were a million times better than Gold Coast. South were actually capable of maintaining possession, all Gold Coast tried to do was kick it long to a target man and most of the time they couldn't manage that, over hitting simple passes and struggling to find the head of their target man. There looks to be a big gulf in quality from the NPL Queensland and NPL Victoria. Nick Epifano would be a good signing as back up to Connor Pain, we can sign one player as an Mature Age Rookie (http://www.a-league.com.au/about) in addition to the normal size of our squad he would be a terrific addition and one that could go to another level in a professional environment. Shaun did say that we would be potentially spending more than the cap this year and I think this would be good option to do so.

Western Sydney Wanderers will host Adelaide United in the Westfield FFA Cup Semi Finals.
Monday, 25 September 2017 -
Staff writer
The dates and venues of the Westfield FFA Cup 2017 Semi Finals have been confirmed by Football Federation Australia (FFA) today.
The first Semi Final will see PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues side South Melbourne FC host the reigning Hyundai A-League Champions Sydney FC at Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne on Wednesday 11 October 2017 (kick-off 7:30pm AEDT).

While Wednesday 11 October 2017 was not previously scheduled as an official Westfield FFA Cup match date for this year’s competition, venue availability at Lakeside Stadium necessitated a shift in the Semi Final scheduling.

FFA engaged with its stakeholders including the participating Clubs, the venue, as well as host broadcaster FOX SPORTS, to ensure the first Semi Final would be played at Lakeside Stadium and take the magic of the Westfield FFA Cup back to South Melbourne’s home ground, rather than the alternatives of playing the match in a neutral venue in Melbourne, or a reversed fixture in Sydney.

In the second Semi Final of this year’s Westfield FFA Cup, Western Sydney Wanderers FC will host Adelaide United at Campbelltown Stadium on Tuesday 24 October (kick-off 7:30pm AEDT) in an all Hyundai A-League affair.

FOX SPORTS will broadcast both Semi Final matches LIVE and EXCLUSIVE.

FFA can also confirm that the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2017 will be played on Tuesday 21 November 2017.

Ticketing information for each Westfield FFA Cup 2017 Semi Finals match will be released in due course by each home club. Please visit www.theffacup.com.au/tickets for further details.

South Melb just got an advantage of SydneyFC having only just the x1 A-League game under their belt.

Would have been a slightly tougher match for them facing a far fitter and more cohesive SydFC after Rnd:3

South Melbourne tip 8000 sellout for Sydney FC FFA Cup clash

Excitement is building at South Melbourne with club sources tipping a sellout at Lakeside for their Westfield FFA Cup semi-final against Sydney FC on Wednesday night.

The Sky Blues will remain in the Victorian capital for the clash after defeating Melbourne Victory 1-0 in their Hyundai A-League season opener on Saturday night.

There’ll be a number of Sydney FC fans at the picturesque Lakeside as the reigning Australian champions look to make their second Cup final in as many years.

“The club is buzzing. We’re expecting a sellout with around 8000 fans at the ground for this clash,” said a club spokesperson.

“We suggest fans pre-book by going to www.smfc.com.au/tickets”.

The game will bring together four time NSL champion South Melbourne against three time A-League Champion and reigning champions Sydney FC in a huge clash at Lakeside Stadium.

And the clash also brings together two of the hottest strikers in the competition this season.

Milos Lujic has scored four times on South Melbourne’s journey to the last four, finding the net in every round so far for the PS4 Victorian NPL powerhouse.

On the other side, Sydney FC’s marquee man Bobo has scored five goals, although four of those came in the Round of 32 8-0 demolition of Darwin Rovers.

The dual between the two prolific goal-scorers could go a long way to determining the winner on Wednesday night.

The home side will also need to shut-down the Sky Blues’ Polish international Adrian Mierzejewski, who has settled into Australian football impressively.

But South have their own threats, with the likes of Marcus Schroen and Nick Epifano joining 27-year-old Lujic in a fearsome attacking triumvirate.

It all adds up to what should be a thrilling Cup semi-final on Wednesday night!

Matthew Millar looks more than capable of playing A-League and would be great back up for Connor Pain. Has pace and can accurately cross so could seemingly very easily make the step up.

The Wanderers should have at least one player sent off, Aspro and Bonevacia have been absolute thugs.

Adelaide's work rate is phenomenal well done Marco Kurz.

Peter Green put in one of the worst referee performances I have ever seen. The Wanderers hacked down so many players and he let them get away with it, the Wanderers should have had three players sent off. He carded a challenge from Isaías that barely touched Bonevacia and got the ball and rewarded a clear dive from Santalab. He deserves a long break from officiating.

This is inexplicable. That 2nd one in particular, one of the worst attacks I've seen. Usually I can at least think of some explanation for a wrong decision. Got nothing here.
He needs to be suspended. 2nd one was somehow a yellow - MRP needs to invoke the 'obvious error' clause.
Utterly incompetent is the only description tonight.
Our top-tier referees have big systematic problems - but the rot runs deeper than what we see on the field.
