ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Club Statement released via email:

The Central Coast Mariners are aware that Ángel Torres was charged yesterday with serious offences related to sexual assault by NSW Police.

Given the alleged serious criminal offences with which Torres has been charged, Football Australia immediately imposed a no-fault suspension pursuant to clauses 7(b) and 7(c) of Football Australia’s National Code of Conduct and Ethics. The suspension is a precautionary measure that suspends the player from participating in football and club related activities.

It is important to note that Football Australia in imposing this interim suspension is making no finding of guilt or fault in respect of the offences with which Torres has been charged. Such charges remain matters to be determined by the Courts of New South Wales.

The Central Coast Mariners will not be making any further comments in relation to the matter at this time.

Let's just see the result before we start talking convictions.
This. f**king this.

None of us has any clue whether it’s true or not. Pretty tired (in general) if an accusation is made, no matter the level, people in this country believe it to be instantly true.

We literally just have to wait and see what happens, mariners fans jump the gun on everything. Don’t jump the gun on this.

I have a friend who was accused of rape many years ago. He was stood down from his job as a teacher for 3 years until he was proven to be innocent. It was a really shit situation. She was after victims of crime money for some stupid reason. Hes fortunately recovered career wise and financially.

Its a tricky one, in that its innocent until proven guilty, but in saying that like f**k rapists.
Accusing people of sexual assault and rape isn’t a ‘easy option for money’ in this country however, Britney Higgins prime example. Chased out of the country by media harassment and people trolling her constantly online yet we all now know that Lehermann was guilty after all.

People don’t like believing women in this country.

"Innocent until proven guilty" isn't really relevant here.

You either have values as a club or you don't.

He will be stood down until his contract expires or the matter reaches a resolution in the legal system.

It is relevant, either he's guilty or he not.

Innocent until proven guilty. Could go either way.

If he's guilty then throw the book at him.

Wouldn't be the first time a professional athlete has been set up or that an athlete has been guilty of despicable acts.

And if he's not, what then?

Exactly. My thoughts went immediately to him given his apparent ego but that doesn't make it so, there are always 2 sides to every story. If you were going to look at anyone in the team based on public persona it'd be him. But judgement must be reserved, we don't know the facts

Police don’t press charges without a decent amount of evidence, especially in matters of sexual assault of a high profile person.

You are correct, that in NSW the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty, however a simple accusation is not enough for a police officer to obtain an arrest warrant which judging from the information coming out, they have used a warrant.

Whether he is innocent or not. We shouldn’t take sides, championing him or saying he is innocent because we do not know.

Presumed innocent in a court of law ≠ innocent of malfeasances. Innocent in the eyes of the law is for protections to be in place for an accused persons. The public should not blindly accept that everyone is innocent, nor blindly view everyone is guilty. The public should shut the f**k up, like the club and let it run its course. During that time, stand him down. Should he be found not guilty, then the club will more than likely once again show their support

(depending on what else is found during the trail, ie. the way he communicates to women, threats ect.)
