Key Largo closed as part of $7m overhaul
BY VANESSA HANDLEY
KEY Largo nightclub has been closed as part of a $7 million refurbishment of Crowne Plaza Terrigal.
The club's final trading night was last Saturday, November 30. It will be replaced by a new bar, plans for which are currently being finalised.
Crowne Plaza's director of sales and marketing Iain Ganner said Key Largo was closed because it was not in keeping with the hotel's new image.
"We didn't get rid of Key Largo because it was affecting the hotel's rating," Mr Ganner said.
"The new bar will aim to attract those over the age of 25.
"We are sorry to see Key Largo go, but it's time to call it a night."
Mr Ganner said the hotel's upgrade is aimed at luring tourists from Sydney.
"The hotel has always been held in high esteem but the upgrade will aim to attract the Sydney market.
"This long-overdue and very exciting project will reinstate Crowne Plaza Terrigal as one of the top seaside hotels in Australia."
The hotel's 196 rooms will be refurbished floor by floor, and the corridors and lobby updated, from February 2009
