SO..four trialers (Glasso etc) and we signed f**king none of them And Mickey Neil moved to Scumdrovia .....every other club signed f**king somebody during the dampenic..NOT US ...f**king why would we ....hand the license back Shaun / Pikey ...it’s becoming pointless

We weren’t able to get international transfer clearance for Glassock, Major, and Olsen unfortunately. Out of the 4 players who’ve been training with us, Mickey Neill was the only one who we could’ve picked up but it looks like either we chose not to offer a contract or he chose to go to Newcastle. Personally would’ve loved to have seen Glasso back at the club, hopefully we can pick him up in the next window.

Out of the 4 Glassock and Olsen I would have been happy as squaddies going forward - not just for the restart but going forward. I hope this doesn't preclude signing them for next season.
Football is a result driven business ,take Watford they have sacked 3 managers this season trying to get the right strategy on the park and yet Nigel Pearson fined himself sacked and he saved Watford from relegation.So why is Stajcic still in a job after 11 defeats in a row going for an A league record of 12 , 18 loses in the season and he has signed or resigned 18 of the current squad , I think there should be change at management level clearly he has nothing to offer this team .
My off the cuff thoughts, for what they are worth:
1. We can’t afford to fire another coach (particularly one on a 3 years deal);
2. Staj needs a chance to build his own squad - he has not really had the opportunity to date;
3. This club desperately needs stability in the coaching ranks;
4. What is the alternative and who would we attract to coach a team when there’s a history of recent coaches being moved on so quickly;
5. Surely it becomes more difficult to attract quality players if they can’t be confident who will be coach.
I am sure there are other reasons, feel free to add to the list anyone...

How much can you expect out of Staj with the squad he has to work with? Watching some other games and they are bringing on subs with more talent than we have in our starting line up.
If we sack Staj nothing significant will change. We need to overhaul whatever decision making process has us always having problems with our recruitment. Spend your limited funds well and give the bloke a chance.
Staj is not performing he has to go,if someone new came in it might give the players a new lease of life.Also the players he has not been playing or have been deemed not good enough in his opinion(which I don’t think a lot of now tbh)get a clean slate.lets be honest it’s not like he has a great pedigree in football it’s not like we would be sacking Arnie,he’s staj and he has not got what it takes.

We all laughed at Sydney FC and their revolving door of coaches. We are now worse than them. We need stability and investment. Changing coaches delivers 0 out of 2 of those. All we will be doing is repeating the same mistakes.
Do I think Staj is the answer - no idea. But replacing him with anyone but someone of the calibre of Arnold or better while not investing more in the investing is useless. And paying out his contract will only mean we have less money to invest.

Which players are you referring to? Because it looked like a few players got a clean slate on the weekend. Fox started, I don’t think we’ve seen Melling at all until then. Oar started. Silvera started. Some young players got minutes off the bench.
So who are you talking about? Mcglinchey? Simon? Jair?

I am split on this one.
I believe even with a less superior squad we should be able neutralise the opposition in games and show that each player can hold their man 1v1 and use this as a foundation to then work on attack.
It won’t work every game but we would see more draws which would bolster confidence that we can compete.
The sliding defence idea is great when done properly but allows strikers to much room and defenders ‘pass the buck’ of responsibility of who’s man that is.
If we want to settle on a longer term coach we really do need someone with current player connections from other clubs that is willing to use those relationships to bring in players of just that next tier of quality for the starting 11, that coach would need to convince 2 initial players and then use them as the draw card to build the 11.
Popovich ended up with Jason Davidson & a host of capped international players year before when he came back because he had the confidence to tell potential prospects that if we get ‘you’ we have ‘a’ ‘b’ ‘c’ already and we have ‘d’ ‘e’ ‘f’ on the hook and we will have a trophy.
So I do think we need stability as a coach but I don’t like Staj’s approach, structure and tactics for the level or quality our squad is at.

From what we've seen so far I'm not sure. I don't agree with all of his line ups and choices but admit I dont have the information and insights he has, as well as the obvious issue of having to try to make something work with the team he has. What I do know is the squad hasn't given him a lot of chance to succeed and many of the problematic players were inherited not his recruits. We've got some of our more expensive players not delivering what we need from them and thats a big issue when we've filled around them with less experienced or journeymen.
My biggest criticism is the lack of a cohesive attacking shape but that has persisted under multiple managers - so is it all of their fault or is there something else we would be better served in addressing? We havent had that creative play maker to pull the strings and we desperately need to address it. I suspect they were hoping it could be DDS but that hasnt worked out. He gets through a lot of work but he isnt a ninko, castro, davilla, etc..

Problem is we dont have the budget to do that. How do you convince those key players to come over without the funds to build a squad around them?
Also I agree we need to be able to grind out more draws rather than another loss but the lack of experience and quality shows in the back line too. We've got no clear experienced CB leader. I like Ziggy but he isnt the rock at the heart of the defence - that said if we had 2 more of him I reckon we'd be in a better spot. Fox and Tonyik have been up and down, Rowles hasnt had the best season. Kim tried to fill in but wasnt a natural CB and language might have been an issue. Clisby is ok but when he makes a mistake, and there have been some howlers, the lack of quality beside him makes us more vulnerable. Miller is an interesting prospect but still young.

Would you wish that on the bloke right now? Seems to be doing good work with the youth team. Same with people saying to get Hutch over here. There's a decent chance we put a club legend through the grinder and spit them out with a terrible record which could set them back years. Unless you're going to support them better than we have managers in recent years you're setting them up to fail.
