Not picking Balard is shortsighted to say the least.He obviously thinks Teague is the player he wants to play that role .Great he has seen the light on Triantis and maybe it was in Popa's mind a choice between Maxi and Nectarios.Pity about Nizzy but the club he plays for does not do his abilities justice.

However I still want the Socceroos to win and win well with plenty of goals.

Teague is a good player, he reads the game well and distributes nicely most of the time. But his 1-1 defending needs work and I don't really feel he's a presence in midfield, directing people around and whatnot. He also can't skip past or turn a defender or two with ease like a certain other player can.

Max is the next level up in every aspect, I really don't see how he's missed out here. Jacko and maybe O'Neill are the only better options in midfield (and even then...).

Popa needs to take the Vuck coloured glasses off, how Arzani got in when he can't even make the Vuck starting team is criminal not to mention Velupillay who is not long back from injury. I actually love having an Aussie coach but times like this make me wish for someone more impartial.

I don mind Teague. He's young and playing pretty well. Tbh he's in the squad to see what he is about and give him some exposure rather than any real likelihood that he plays. Rather that approach than Brattan and (to an extent) Caceras.

Max is the next level up in every aspect, I really don't see how he's missed out here. Jacko and maybe O'Neill are the only better options in midfield (and even then...).

Irvine is in the side because he puts in a shift. Technical wise he is not great and is getting to that age where these windows are getting to be his last. Max, O'Neill, Robertson, triantis are all gaining quickly. Nizzy is probably going out of contention by playing for Ross county. Just relieved he didn't pick hrustic.

Looking at the squad, he has picked 5 midfielders and 4 right backs (geria, miller, degenek and karacic) and 2 left backs (behich and Davidson - plus Rowles and Goodwin can play there).

Do you reckon the game plan is going to involve a lot of playing through midfield?

I know there’s a few injuries and European availability issues, but on paper there is not much exciting happening on that team sheet at all.

Every international is important and should be moulding the team of the next World Cup and this team to most people seems a bit of base for pretty much every game since Poppa.
