ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Hard liquor at the bar would change that in an instant.

Would also change the amount of viloence during and after the game and increase the cleaning bill dramatically but hey, you gotta break a few eggs to make an omlette.  ;)

it's all about Culture

I'm not certain about your statement regarding singing not being in our culture. As an example, UK clubs have had a century and more to perfect their songs, anthems and chants. Supporters of those clubs know them well because they've been around for so long. They are learned from early childhood, and are ingrained in their supporters memories.

Of course, we could borrow a well know football favourite and claim it as our own ... that would be easy. You'd get a lot singing or humming along then. It really depends which way the marinators want to go ..... tried an true for more initial support from the crowd, or endure years of "branding" with a new song or anthem.

Personally, I think a lot has to do with the way the team plays .... if they play well, whatever the score, punters will want to sing and encourage .... they play badly, won't get much of a chirp out of the general pop.

TBH, when I go, I get wrapped up watching the game. Everythig else is in the peripheral.  However I do like the anthem ... I sing along because I know it.

You have a problem when singing is not part of the culture AND you have a crap complicated song to sing.

song is actually less complicated than "you'll never walk alone" in which the rowdies used as an athem

Not that my opinion means much, I do think something a little more home grown would be better suited.

this is not a thread for suggestions, it's a thread to discuss OUR anthem. which is not changing.

So we're to sing this 'anthem', regardless of the fact that we may or may not dislike the song, because someone(or a group) has decided that that's just the way its going to be?

Wouldn't an anthem that works take off close-enough-to-straight-away??  Naturally click with the majority of people and be picked up as such??

Trying to force something that's clearly not working only increases the resentment factor IMHO.  I'm all for an anthem, don't get me wrong, but it's gotta be something that organically grows, surely??
