I very much doubt the team that started tonight will be the preferred starting 11 that we see towards the end of the season.
I would guess that there are only about 4 of tonight's side who are not under very serious pressure.
We have a lot of young talent who will be piling that pressure on.
It will be fascinating watching how it all comes together.

So we have got a finisher.

Interesting game, lot of back and forth. I think it was obvious they're at the end of their season and we're at the start.

Great experience for the young fellas in the team. Once again very impressed with the work rate and motivation.

We're still finding the 11, it's coming together well though.

Was a good game to watch live in a fantastic new stadium with a very good atmosphere. Not the result I was after and a little frustrating not taking our chances. I think I agree with everyone on Vitor, bench now and give someone else a go and maybe offload in January. Great finish by Duarte and right in front of us. Said hello to Simo and MC after the game. Great trip and have found China interesting and would come back.

Ok. It was a sketcy performance but not without some merit. I'm not going to give player scores as they would be on the low side. Swap keepers and we would have won or at least drawn.

Dylan. Bit shaky at the beginning with his feet but did ok. Looks like he will develop into a quality keeper. Doesn't lack confidence.
Storm. Had a shocker. Should have been hooked at 60 min for Kocevski.
Kaltak. Another shocker apart from one moment of class defending.
Tappy. Not good defensively but tried all game and played a lovely through ball late in the game.
Mauragis. Poor defensively but got forward well. Not composed with final ball or cross. Great engine.
Fellatiio. Poor. Looked good for one little patch so there is hope. On that performance no better than Theo or Wilson. Ngor looked much more viable.
Steele. Worked hard but did not look up to this level. Didn't screen the defence. Tappy is much better.
Alfie. Looked like our most technical mid but not mistake free. His schoolboy shanked clearance led to a corner that we defended like statues and bang we are 1.0 down.
Doka. Actually improved when he went to the left side. Scored a great goal but was bang average again.
Edmo. Had a good 1st half.
Kuol. Worked hard but is lacking confidence.

All the subs did well and Duarte took his goal superbly.

Defensively we are not aware of the attacking threat around us. At times Kuol was our most effective defender!

I think we underestimate how badly we are being hurt by having Tappy at CB. dont get me wrong, he was my MoM and is immense as a ball playing CB.
However, we lose him from midfield and his ability to play the balls that the strikers need. Steeley is adjusting to regular games and playing at this level, Alfie is not having the impact Niz did either. Thats maybe why we are persisting with 442 as we dont have another midfielder ready?
Duartes goal? Lovely through ball from guess who? Tappy.
However, some of the football we played once that Brazillian fraud was hooked was beautiful and would blow any other AL team away.

Was it Tapp or Kuzi that gave the through ball?

Mariners elite only score bangers.

Heavy pitch seemed to catch us out a bit

Frustrating not to put the half chances away and then see them bury one.

Just couldn’t convert our periods of dominance

Still never give up which is great.

Not bad not great
Agree the pitch was very heavy and they watered the crap out of it. Has been dry in Shanghai so it wasn’t from rain. At the game Port ran out of juice in the second half so the heavy pitch was a ploy to slow the game down IMO. I think we needed to make more subs around the 70 minute mark not just Brandtman who had a positive impact. Their fitness was pretty poor given how far into their season they are. At the game it felt like the players didn’t give up which is what you want to see at this time of the season.

Yeah to late with the last couple i agree but we were dominant between 60 and about 75 so i can see why.

Kuz put an awesome ball through late for Kuol I think, look forward to more of that. It didn't end in a goal but really could have.

Fully agree with your comments on Tappy. We need a box to box midfielder to link with the forwards. McCalmont seems capable of filling Max's role but someone is needed to fill Nizz's box to box game, before he become a #10, to provide a link with the strikers.
In the last two games I have watched a South American (who shall remain nameless) make great breaks down the sideline, with no support apart from one or two strikers 50 metres away on their lonesome. No one is providing that support in attack in the park in attack.
I do not think Steely is the answer.

It also seems that many here do not learn the risk of knocking new foreign players before they settle in fully. I like eggs, but not on my face. That is all I will say. I am fully satisfied with "I told you sos" from the last few seasons.
