ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Is Con going then?

The thing with Con is that it's his club. He owns it and it's his baby. He isn't just going to walk away from it, I don't really think he cares all that much about what the fans think about him. I think he is getting a bit better, but I think he has left it too late maybe.

I think it will be a nervous time for him when the liscence comes up for review at the end of V5.

In saying that, this woeful season hasn't been completely his fault. There has been a number of factors contributing to our downfall.

i love the smell of the new zealand knights in the morning...

but seriously, if the FFA were to say 'we're keeping a club in newcastle no matter what happens and it will have the name, colours and all other things honoured, but we're completely willing to take the licence from con and give it to another bidder' you would get people falling over themselves to get a hold of it.

football in newcastle is ridiculously strong for what has happened to it over the years, and newcastle and novocastrians deserve better (yes, really) than what they've been served up in recent years. managing to jag a premiership is one thing, but the consistent chaos and mismanagement is another.

every newcastle fan knew in their heart of hearts i'm sure that as of about april a title defence would be essentially impossible. i don't think they would ever have imagined it would get to this - clear at the bottom with the wooden spoon confirmed before the premership is. it's nice to have taken 7 points off them though! ;D

Con's problem is that no one in their right mind would invest with him still involved. Football at the end of V4 is a lot more viable than post NSL and if he was applying for a new franchise now, he would be rightly laughed at.

exactly - if FFA advertises 'ready made franchise complete with one shiny toilet seat, one idiot owner kicked to the kerb' they'll have people lined up around the block.

i'd wager newcastle fans aren't there for con either, they're there for a newcastle football team. if con goes, i doubt you'll see torrents of tears from anyone but con.

Bring back the Breakers.

They weren't the richest Club in the world, but they were a community club who's officials and owners always had time for the fans.

Also an absolutely delicious line of flavoured milk poppers. Hands up if during your childhood you had one chilling in your lunchbox alongside a packet of cheese and bacon cheetohs balls.

In all seriousness, the mighty Breakers were the reason I started following domestic football as a lad, and wasn't pretty when it all went to sh!t

I remember the Breakers primarily for Troy Halpin, the wonderful talent that he was. It is really beyond me as to why he wasn't picked up by an A-League club before the start of V1 when he still had it in him, while FAR less talented hacks (you know who I mean) did.

Agree fully, I had the pleasure of seeing what a professional he was on and off the pitch when i was the 1st Grade Team Manager of Central Coast United in their last year of NSW Prem Lge. Coach was former socceroo Grant Lee and he persuaded Troy to play, excellent midfielder/leader on the pitch.

Where creative players in the NSL are concerned... there was also Chi Chi Mendez, who actually went over to Notts County on loan under Sam Allardyce IIRC. And the much less-known Robbie Puca, who played with Hutchinson and Galekovic at Gippsland, and is still plying his trade in WA state football.

Washington Gonzales who had a stint with Parramatta Eagles.

There has not been an a-league player yet who could hit a long range freekick like him.
