Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

RIP Fury?

FOOTBALL Federation Australia is predicted to break months of promises and axe the Fury from the A-League tomorrow.

Representatives from the code's national governing body are set to arrive in Townsville for a fly-in, fly-out visit to deliver what Sydney FFA sources say will be North Queensland's death knock.

If it is true then the FFA are in deep trouble .. they have lost their way. It would be a sad day for football fans.

Time perhaps for more F##K the FFA banners, and booing FFA reps at the Grand Final, like Labozetta got in the old NSL

Looks like Fury are saying they have the money, FFA is saying they don't. I wonder if Fury doesn't really have the cash they claim to have and are stalling in the hope of getting new sponsorship/investors, and the FFA doesn't want to get stung.

I hope the FFA uses the money they say they are saving from not having to prop this club up to actually promote the A-League, otherwise we will just see more clubs dropping off.

FFA = f**king Feckless Arseholes.

How about using some of the TV rights money to support the clubs instead of wasting in on Bucley bleaching his teeth each month.

Disgraceful shower of shite.

What part of North Queensland don't have the money to continue as a professional football club in a professional league don't you understand?
They needed to raise $1.5m capital - that is, money in the bank - they raised less than $300k.
Don't blame the FFA, they have lost $9m on this mob; despite all the posturing and hand wringing the money wasn't there and that is why NQF won't be playing next season.
Sure, it's sad, sure the FFA has stuffed up expansion (the hopeless dream of the Sydney Rovers, the denial of the strong case for Canberra)but they can only bleed money for a lost cause for so long.
And yes, I would like David Williams but I reckon Robbie Middleby would be excellent as a recruitment officer - he found gems like Tim Smith and Mark Hughes.

Roy,

That is the FFA claim (from an organisation that is not known for its clear and transparent communications) ... with others in the media and in the region suggesting not quite so.

A lot more to come out I think before we might know the balanced truth.

I haven't seen anyone in the media or the region claim they have more than $300,000 capital right now. They have sponsorship and pledges for the next 3 years but that does not minimise the risk for the FFA.

It just was not viable to continue to pour money into it when if you look at the bigger picture the FFA as a whole isn't exactly swimming in cash. The length of time it has been on hold for suggests that the FFA was hoping somebody would chime in with the capital to keep the team going without the FFA having to. It didn't happen so bye bye Fury.

If the Community ownership model had more time then maybe it would be a diferent story today. I'm sure that right now the community as a whole has a lot more important things to do with their cash than keep a football team afloat.

Good interview with the Fury Chairman on Fox Sports FC last night. He accepted the FFA descision based on the fact thet thought they would lose $1m next year and the FFA's assessment was they would lose $2m. He did say that if they were given next year then the community ownership model would work.

The only thing about the community ownership model is tht it was mooted ny the Fury last March - yet it was only launched 3 weeks ago. Why the delay?

I must admit I had the same thought as they have been in trouble for a while but they did not ask that question of him.

So, if the FFA was to come out and say that the Fury is gone because the money required from FFA to keep Brisbane afloat leaves no room to save the Fury, would that appease everyone? Would it change the decision? It wont be the last team that folds from the A-League and its not the first.
