You mean professional football not a game where everything is fair like a kids comp?
As a player your job is to get it done. If the ref lets you. Game on.
I dont blame Auckland for taking advantage of it at all. I was responding to someone saying we let them push us around. I dont think we did, we were unfortunately held to a different standard but thats Evans for you. We needed to be better no doubt but it really doesnt help the cause when key moments favor one side.

Evans did let Auckland away with a lot of shirt pulling and pushing especially in the first half .The fouls were often around the half way line stopping any attacking momentum we had.In the end the foul count was Auckland 18 to CCM'S 8 so he did police it better in the second half

Steele could learn from Brimmer, he is always tripping players etc and interrupting play but not hard enough or late enough to get cautioned. Steele was too busy getting pushed off the ball and passing backwards. Unfortunately we have no other options so we are stuck with one of the worst midfields in the comp. It’s now perfectly clear why Balard was always preferred.

Balard was the kingpin in the academy. But Steele was preferred over Tapp, despite being a couple of years younger than both Max and Tappy. Monty and Serge clearly saw something.

Harry's biggest problem to me at the moment seems to be lack of confidence. Doesn't look like he really wants the ball. Always looks forward but will only play forward if there is a high percentage option (which with the lack of good movement in front of him is rare) and not prepared to back himself

Steele and Balard were fighting to win the spot next to Niz and it would swing game to game who everyone preferred.

Then injuries hit Steele and Balard made massive improvements once he won the spot.

Steele then never found consistency with time through injuries and being 3rd choice.

It’s the first time he has played consistently week in week out and with new teammates.

Tapp leaped back over Steele last year with change of coach and injuries still caught Steele.

Tapp then made a massive step this year before his ACL

If Steele can get confidence in his body and mind there is no reason he and Tapp don’t run the midfield next season with Eames.

Not everyone turns out and I hate to say it but he does not appear to be AL level. He was terrible against Auckland and might as well have not been on the field. Hard to build confidence when you are unlikely to make it. Alfie has improved and is giving 100%, Steele just jogs around loses contests and passes backwards or across field 95% of the time.

Perfectly said! Top post.

Paid particularly to Koul tonight, as my reading this year of his play was not great.

Tonight I changed my mind, and then I went back in my mind to previous games this season.

The poor bugger gets Ariel hospital passes constantly. No Niz or Ballard finding openings.

He ran all night and was both heavily marked and often fouled .

His defence in the box tonight was better than you expect 9s to produce

When DP returns hopefully we can start to open a space

It’s easy to be an effective part of the machine with very good players around you, many will lift to that level. The great players are the ones that drag the level and players around them up. Unfortunately for Steele we don’t have a rockstar beside him to lift him up, but another good midfielder might help elevate Alfie.
