Why? We can no longer recruit. This seasons replacements aren't up to it.
Why will it be better next year with less to spend.
Remember who's in charge

Next year we hopefully can have an injury free offseason and build some rhythm with some returning players all coming into fitness.

With Di-Pizio, Delima, Trent and Tapp coming back into a formation that suits and can stabilise a way of playing again.

Dire display against a goodish but not great team.Has Kaltak lost his pace this season -seems to be regularly out paced by attackers.Sains did a couple of passes out to Mauragis but otherwise was very rusty and his timing in tackles was way off.

Apart from Doka and Alfie our boys looked very poor -passing,first touch and decision making all substandard. The Auckland boys must do their defence training with the All Blacks-every tackle was initially with the hands and arms.Bring on NYE and a back four.

We were better in the 2nd half but otherwise a disappointing shambles.

We just don't have the quality for the final pass or shot in attack
combined with
we don't have the quality in the final scramble for defence
equals
getting a bit smacked around.

Shame, otherwise there's a good team in there
Pretty good summary. :( Can't score and guys just not on the same page down back leaving to silly fumbling and allowing stupid sad goals.

A competition for those who are prepared to watch the replay. (I am not going to, saw enough live).

1) Count the number of runs made by forwards, ignored by the ball carrier (clue: it is a lot, but may not be visible on tv.)
2) Count the number of times Kuol runs to the near post, and getting on the inside of his marker) when someone is breaking down the side line. (clue: not (m)any).
3) Count the number of times Storm and Brian tried to work out who was playing, right centre back, right full back, right wing back, or right wild cat back, while the opposition scored.

Last week I said there were only two players in the starting eleven that I want to see starting next season with two more possible.
Now there are just two. The possibles have been dropped to the "yet to be convinced nine".

That was just dire.

We are definitely stuck in a hard place with the player ins and outs.

Looks like the idea of bringing Trent back in was to give that injection and confidence that should have lifted those around him.

But seemingly only disturbed the slow progress of work done in his absence.

Very hard decisions now for Jacko, stick to the back 5 / back 3 in attack and persist with Trent working into that system which has been successful on & off.
And realistically has been a more stable format overall in the absence of Tapp & Sains.

Or do we bite the bullet and change to suit Trent as he regains fitness and confidence.

I still think there is a compromise with a 4-1-4-1 so we have someone sweeping the midfield to double team opposition ball carriers.

I think this suits a better transition moving forward to the end of the season and provides a layer of safety but more so we still need to let our fullbacks be fullbacks!

Why are both Mauragis and Roux so bloody high at the same time when the ball can only be on one side of the pitch at a time.
The other wing back on opposite side of pitch needs space to run into when the time does arrive to make a back post run etc but they are so high they are man marked and ineffective and guess what we loose the ball then have 3 fullbacks against 2/3/4 attackers running at us and we tripping over our own feet.

Commit a wing back but only on one side at a time with the odd selected moment when they are sure can be useful to a sweeping move or counter.

So NYE for me just start the process of moving to a 4 back system but have a connection between backs and mids also used as a ‘midfield sweeper’ to double team and help steal and break down before getting to our lovely fullback line.

Roux———-Kaltak———Paul———Mauragis/S
<<<<<<<<————Steele———->>>>>>>>>>>
Doka———-Eames———-Alfie—————Ngor
———————Brandtmann—————————

* Doka wider so has more room to compose and create.
* Kuol out as the good crosses are too far and few and need to reset the way we find players for goals.
* Ngor needs a chance to show some energy early and we really need to find a way to score first.
* Eames a little less pressure than in today’s format as the primary advanced mid in the straight 4 midfield.
* Trent back to bench for a couple of weeks while we do the transition and practice at training to continue to discover best eleven and best combos again.

Moving into next year if keep similar players ideally:

Roux/Kuz——Trent———Kaltak——Mauragis/S
<<<<<<<<————Tapp———->>>>>>>>>>>
Doka———-DiPizio——-Alfie———Ngor/DLima
