ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Other A League Games 2023/24

There goes our hope of B2B Champions. The powers that be want one of two deciders:

a) Nix (novelty of a new GF contestant) v SFC (will bring big away numbers) at a sold out cake tin
b) Yet another Big Blue (who cares if it is literally the most contested fixture in A-League history? Let's reheat it and have another one- yay ratings!)

Notice who (of the 4 sides left) doesn't feature in either of their desired outcomes?

Make sure to change your tinfoil hat every now and then, don't want it to cut off circulation.

Not the result we wanted.....and selfishly I was hoping for a MV SF, but oh well.

SFC aren't just tougher competition, but they'll have big numbers to both games as well.

But, there actually is a benefit to this.

It means it's not possible to have a "Home" GF in the opposition's stadium. That's actually huge for us.

We can absolutely beat Sydney.

Short turn around for the Mariners but if Lolley and Brattan are out Sydney will not be as strong. If the Gosford boys can withstand Sydney's incredible pressing game they will present some threats to the Smurfs. Both teams have top coaches so the battle of tactics will be fascinating.

Yeah, I feel like this really will be a battle of the coaches.

And I think we're pretty much the experts at handling a short turnaround at this point. 3 games in 9 days is basically a rest period for us now :D

You really think they have no preferences for the GF?

This league struggles for ratings, they want to get the most interest for the decider and CCM v Nix just won't have the same draw as Nix v a big market team like SFC or a historic rivalry between the two biggest teams in the league.

How many times over the years must we get dicked by the officials against SFC before people realise maybe the league favouring certain teams over others isn't some ridiculous conspiracy?
Only thing to say is if you are wrong may you never speak of it again

The officials work for FA not the APL. FA have zero financial incentive to manufacture an outcome.

I do believe that sometimes teams like SFC & Victory get the rub of the green but a lot of it comes down to sub conscious bias where high profile players are involved and they can afford more of them. Ie Lolley gets more benefit of the doubt than Kuol might get when it comes to a borderline tackle. Or it could be the more experienced players are that bit cleaner in their craft knowing how to make a tackle look a bit less dangerous or cynical.

They do. Financial viability of the League means it stays in the hands of the APL, if it doesn't it becomes a FA problem.

But I'm with you on the subconscious bias point.

That's a pretty long bow to draw. I mean technically yeah but rigging one finals game is hardly going to make or break the survival of the APL. And if you want to go down that rabbit hole you could argue FA could pick it back up for pennies if the APL did go under and they'd have AL and NST all under their banner ready for pro rel later.
