ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Worst half of football? I know 2014-2019 was bad, but jeez.
Two shots at goal by both teams in 45 mins of football. At least in the bad years we seen goals (not ours). Lots of neutrals at the event last night and the first 45 mins isn’t a good look at all. It was like a library in the stands.

Then the last 10 mins was two teams content with a draw and both trying not to lose more than win.

Some data.
Steele made zero tackles last night. None.
Not even attempted tackles and lost but no attempts.
His pass success rate was 82%. Committed no fouls.
No shots, 1 pass that made it to the final 3rd.
I'm guessing we will use Tappys insurance money on a CM.
I have to say that I have been both underwhelmed and frustrated by Steele all season. I don’t quite understand it but he seems lost. @priorpeter has obviously watched him come up through the academy and possibly has a different perspective…

Yep the midfield is the biggest problem, Fix that and the defence improves as well as service to our attackers. Steele is reactive to tackles and interceptions, with the ball has absolutely no vision. Just because he is a coastie people go after other players, there is no way any supporter should be happy with his contribution this season. It looked like small improvements about a month ago but he has regressed again. Problem is no viable options.

Sure was. The first half was dire. The fringe players did well too. Wilson was really hungry and dangerous and Paull scoring was a plus
wilson has a beautiful shot on him .
with luck he wins it for us.

pauli is turning into an old style libero ,like redondo or dare i say okon

Credit to Paull he is improving and that’s what you want from a young player. They will make mistakes but last year and even Academy Paull never looked comfortable in a CCM shirt but this year he is improving rapidly and his confidence is showing. A few confidence dribbles and turn the defenders with holding the ball was showing it.

Still has a lot to work on but this is why you play youth. You give them more than a few games to see if they learn.

I am one of the harshest critics of his but he is showing very promising signs now. Lets hope it continues.

I agree he is improving. But I certainly do not hope it continues (him playing not his learning curve). Perhaps for a couple of games while Sains gets his match fitness back. I want our best team on the park. This is playing a back four, with our best players in their natural positions. The last two first halves are clear evidence the three CBs do not work for us. Two of the worst halves in recent memory. If you want to try him at LB or defensive mid give it a go. There must be a mandate to play him though because that obvious back four has not happened the last two games.

There's nothing wrong with being critical. If he makes a mistake it should be called out.

But that's not happening with Paull from some quarters at the moment.

In a few instances, despite his improvement and current good form, people are making up reasons to criticise him and using him as an excuse for other more senior players being poor and making mistakes eg Brian is poor because he has to play next to Paull.

If everyone is fit and firing is he our best defender? - no, of course not. But on current form over the last few weeks he definitely is.

Based on form across the last 2 games, Paull is absolutely in the obvious back 4.

Brian is honking at the moment and sains can't run out of sight on a dark night.

I know that the first half was about not conceding (which we couldn't do) - but the back 5 just doesn't seem to work with the personnel we have.

If that means on form we play Hetherington and Paull as the two starting CBs so be it. Sainsbury, Hetherington and Roux (if played as a CB) all seem more comfortable as a RCB. Brian and Paull both at LCB.

the only reason they didn't destroy us in the first half was them sticking solely to okon ball.
had they tried to vary and play direct .we'd have seen a blood bath.

Totally agree, we were lucky they came with a very relaxed tactic of trying to smash and grab a one nil away victory. They could have ripped us a new one.
