MANLY NRL star Brett Stewart has pleaded not guilty to sex charges relating to a 17-year-old girl.
In a brief appearance in Manly Local Court today, his lawyer said Stewart "formally enters pleas of not guilty''.
The 24-year-old fullback is charged with sexual intercourse without consent and assault with an act of indecency on a 17-year-old girl about 8pm (AEDT) on March 6 at North Manly.
The alleged incident followed a team function at the Manly Wharf Hotel.
The matter was adjourned to the Downing Centre Local Court on May 26, with the magistrate continuing Stewart's bail and excusing him from appearing if he was legally represented.
The magistrate also continued for three months an interim apprehended violence order (AVO) issued by police in relation to the alleged victim.
Stewart arrived at the court just after 10am (AEST) in the company of his lawyer, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Two close friends also turned up to support of the player.
Well, someones got to support him, dont they, one of the friends said.
Stewart is due to return to the code in time to play against Wests Tigers at Brookvale Oval on Sunday, following a four-week suspension from the NRL from breaching its code of conduct regarding consumption of alcohol.
Since his temporary suspension, the Manly Sea Eagles have not won a game.
It was reported today that NRL boss David Gallop had offered to meet with Stewart to discuss his future with the code.
