National Youth League Fixtures and Mariners youth team discussion

Was at pluim yesterday with my son and they were a very tough 3 pts won by the mariners.Bribane fielded some first graders and played their brand of football. They had at least 65-70% possesion and created lots of chances which were well defended by the mariners or wasted by the bad finishing of the roar players. The mariners defended well and on the counter they were always dangerous.Standout players were the glkp, the back four,in midfield Caceres was amazing(isn't this kid good) and up front Mitchell was at his best.Must admit that the roar deserved better but full credit to the mariners for a very valuable win.

I can see Caceres playing for the us before our season ends, The kid is brilliant.
How did James Oates and Appiah-K play?

Oates was his usual, strong and agressive(in the good sense of the word). He's got the temperament to play a-league.Appiah-K did good but sometimes he tends to over do it and ends up loosing the ball instead of letting it go earlier.

Good to hear about Oates, he will be an fantastic utility player, So much energy.
Appiah-K that's with all strikers i guess, even Duke holds it a bit too long as well. Doesn't matter appiah-k is a brilliant player, so exciting. He'll have another year in the NYL then a step up to 1st team.

Mariners NYL have won the title by virtue of Brisbane beating Perth 4-2; Mariners lead by three points with one game to play and have an enormous goal diffrence. Well done to the NYL boys and all the coaching staff - the Mariners first title of the season!

Congrats to Tony and the boys.Well deserved title. With players like Duke,Appiah-Kubi,Oates,Caceres,it makes it easier to be successful.I ask myself the following questions: Shouldn't these boys be rewarded with a presentation at bluetongue before the game? How is it possible that a team that are crowned champions of Australia at youth level have no players in the young socceroos(u/20s)team?Anyway,well done to all involved.

Congrats to Tony and the youth team guys :pirashoot: :pirashoot: :eek:verhead:

They have now won the NYL whether or not the postponed game is played by virtue of Perth's loss to Victory this afternoon, leaving them 3 points (as well as the previously barely-assailable GD) adrift.

Spirit’s Zac Freeburn playing against Far North Queensland Bulls at Across The Waves sports ground.

Max Fleet BUNDABERG Toyota Spirit is keen for revenge when meeting Capricorn Cougars in round 10 of the Queensland State League at ATW Sports Complex tonight.

The Spirit was beaten by the Cougars 5-3 in the season opener in Rockhampton on March 10.

But their recent form has been good with a 3-0 win against Gold Coast, 2-2 draw with Whitsunday Miners and narrow losses to QAS 2-1 and Far North Queensland Bulls 1-0 from their past four starts.

Their three star Central Coast Mariners recruits Zac Freeburn, Brendan Griffin and Adam Ormsby will play together for the first time since the first round.

Griffin was cleared to play after being plagued by a an ankle injury throughout last month. Assistant coach Peter Martin hoped he would get through the full game and that Ormsby would be back to his best after being below his usual standard in his return after an English stint last week.

"Adam played well but was just not his normal self, but I'm sure he'll be back to his peak," Martin said.

"But it looks like Luke Leggett is out - he has a knee injury - and Tom Evans is away with the schoolboys (state championships)."

Martin said the loss was disappointing but they had had a good week on the training paddock and everyone was keen on payback and notching a much-needed win.

"It's the start of the second round and we still have two games in hand with the wash-outs and we're not situated too bad really, but it is must-win," he said.

"We've had to make a few changes - Brendan Griffin will go to the left side of the midfield and Johnny Brillante will go to the right with Elliot Causer starting up front with Shane Youngberry and we're confident that will be good enough.

"It's a bit of a local derby and everyone is keen and hopefully we'll be able to get over the top of them after the scoreline they put on us in the first round. It was 5-1 at halftime but we won the second half 2-0."

Martin said their backline and keeper Matt Eilers had been "really solid" since that blowout and he backed them to do the job again.

"This week we've concentrated more on attack and scoring - it has been something we've been struggling with, but hopefully we'll get something out of it," he said.

The game is at 7.30pm after the duel between the Spirit and South West at 5.30pm.

Do we know who is replacing him? Has anyone heard about the squad?

Hopefully McClafferty

Squads are starting to being announced so ours should be soon.

Joe Gibbs played for Marconi today in NSWPL GF but has signed for Wanderers I was told.
