Mustafa Amini living the European dream

I'm pretty sure Perez was the highest paid (I'd be very surprised if he wasn't), so I'm guessing somewhere around the $250-300 mark. I just can't see the club being able to afford that kind of money for Musty. Arnie would probably rather get another big name signing. Perhaps someone tougher than Porcelain. lol.

Mariners Return Fire On Musty Row

Staff Writer
May 26 2011

CENTRAL Coast Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull has returned fire in the growing war with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of their prodigal afro, Mustafa Amini.

Amini's agent reacted furiously after Dortmund's reported offer of $135,000 was turned down by the club, followed, he claims, by a demand instead of $700,000.

Buddy Farah said over the weekend: "When I originally sat down with Lawrie McKinna and Graham Arnold we set a valuation of €200,000 ($270,000).

"Then Dortmund receive a letter from Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull saying the club wants €700,000 plus 20 per cent of future sales.

"They saw it as unrealistic and they are no longer interested in further discussions."

He added: "The way the European landscape is, what club would pay any more than $300,000 for an 18-year-old player, especially from Australia?"

Amini impressed the Bundesliga side in trials in March but since then the Mariners have lost influential playmaker Patricio Perez who has returned home to Argentina.
Mariners coach Graham Arnold is now expecting Amini to fill the hole left in the first XI by Perez's exit - and the club now ebelievs he's worth far more to them than Dortmund's last offer.

“There was an offer there and we rejected that, it was an insulting offer,” Turnbull told the Central Coast Express Advocate. “We then put a reasonable proposal to them and they rejected it.
"What people need to take into account is that Mustafa now takes extra special significance at the Mariners now that Perez is no longer at the club.
“It will take a special offer for us to let him go. We’re not greedy, we are trying to do the best for the team and our supporters.
“We’ve never been a club to undertake contract negotiations through the media and that will never change. Some of the numbers quoted in the media have not been correct, we’ll leave it at that. Our offer was fair.”

Coach Arnold added: “Musty will play against Celtic (in a friendly on July 2) and I’m preparing for life with him next season.

"We no longer have Patricio at the club so Musty is a very important part of our plans."

I believe the club has been very sensible. Amini is now crucial for us and it would have been crazy to have sold him for a pitance, even $300K would have been too cheap.
It's also the best move for Amini because if he continues to develop at the current rate he will be snapped up within 12 mths anyway and will have plenty of offers to consider.
To me, $135K tells me Dortmund didn't really rate him that highly (probably marked his card.."shows some potential") and would have given him very limited opportunities in reserves or youth.
For mine Amini will play for Australia (as will Bozanic)one day but he needs to be brought along the right way.

Clearly his manager was simply after the quick 10% and does not have Amini's best interests at heart.

I'm very pleased he stayed and will be taking out my first membership for last 3 seasons (I stopped renewing once LM started mucking about with Gumps).

Bozza/Amini/Griffiths/Wee Mac is a formidable midfield.

Spot on wombat. Dortmund also would have looked at what we paid last season and were offering 233%(approx) for what we thought he was worth. And as Tysonp said he was not expected to play(or only a very minor one) with perez in the team. I hope he has a great season, falls in love with CCM again and signs for another 2-3 yrs.
Funny how his agent lowballed him anyway.

Good to see the shirt matters more than any individual.

Get your hand off it Dibo.

I probably went to more games than you did over the last 3 seasons.

I'm not going to rehash the whole LM/Gumps story.

Last season was a fantastic improvement and deserving of the reward of some of Wombat's hard earned for next season.

LOL AM.....Lawrie would still be in a job if he had consulted me and King Gumps would now be on the coaching staff at CCM

You've been to more games than me have you? I've missed a handful of our games played in NSW over the past three seasons and gone interstate a few times, and my attendance isn't dependent on whether one player is being given bouquets by the manager.

I'll be getting a membership again because I'm a supporter. End of.

I also go regardless of who is in the team and i can't be bothered going through the same boring arguments with you.

You've had your dig (consistent if a little boring and predictable). Lets try and get back on topic.

Can't believe some of the figures being bandied about either in transfer value or wages!

Amini obviously has a lot of potential as does Bernie Ibini but both are still kids learning their craft.
Give him another year under GA and if he keeps developing at the same rate as this past season then he might be worth shouting about!!!

For mine, Olly Bozanic is way ahead in dollar terms, always give 100 per cent for 90 minutes.

I think Olly and Weemac played through that period last year when we were resting players because of the hectic schedule. All class.

Amini finding life tough at the top

Ex-Central Coast Mariners midfielder Mustafa Amini said his move to Borussia Dortmund has been the most demanding and daunting time of his career as he bids to make it in Europe.

Speaking after less than two weeks at back-to-back German Bundesliga champion, where he has trained with the club’s first and second teams, Amini said: “The sheer pace of the training sessions, the load placed upon you and the sheer quality is very different to what it was in Australia.

"It’s a massive step up with the second team and another level again with the senior squad.

“You get to training at 9am and you leave at 6pm. You just train all day. You live and breathe football, which is good and what you want.

“I am at the best club in Germany and you have to expect that of course because the standards and expectations are so high. You have to move quicker, think quicker than ever before. Hopefully I can adapt to it okay.”

Amini joined the first team in Austria for a five-day camp in early July, where he met up with the club's other Australian player, understudy keeper Mitch Langerak, for the first time.

Having scored last week for Borussia Dortmund II in its 4-0 victory over Polish club OKS 1945 Olsztyn, Amini has barely caught his breath since arriving in Europe.

A searching inquisition began with a team bonding ‘survival of the fittest’ style odyssey to Sweden, where players lived out of tents, spent up to six hours a day in canoes, cooked their own provisions, drank lake water and slept in the wilderness.

“It was real survival test stuff,” he explained. “You just wanted to get home at the end of it. It was cold, wet and tough. We canoed from island to island, we had to read maps and go to the toilet in the wilds.

“It was a long five days. There was no brushing your teeth, no showers. It was pretty crazy but at the end of it everybody got to know each other. It was a good team building exercise.”

Amini was signed from Mariners by Dortmund in 2011 before being loaned back to the A-League club, where he played a starring role in its run to the 2011/2012 Premiership.
