Mustafa Amini living the European dream

CENTRAL Coast greed has robbed Mustafa Amini of a dream four-year contract with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, says the player's management amid fears he may never get another opportunity like this.

The kid from a housing commission unit in Wentworthville earns less than $40,000 a season with the Mariners but he could have pocketed four times that amount in his first year with the German club had the transfer gone smoothly.

But Amini's manager Buddy Farah claims the Mariners shot themselves in the foot by changing their tune and asking a ridiculous fee of close to $1 million for the young attacking midfielder, who burst on to the A-League scene only last season.

"The way the European landscape is, what club would pay any more than $300,000 for an 18-year-old player, especially from Australia?" Farah said yesterday.

Dortmund had initially offered to pay $135,000.

"When I originally sat down with Lawrie McKinna and Graham Arnold we set a valuation of €200,000 ($270,000).

"Then Dortmund receive a letter from Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull saying the club wants €700,000 plus 20 per cent of future sales.

"They saw it as unrealistic and they are no longer interested in further discussions."

What an absolute joke! Central Coast greed!? It's not a charity! He signed a contract with us and we need him. If we aren't going to be compensated fairly then we are well within our rights to retain OUR player.

This article makes me sick.

1. the offer was in no way worth taking. man u wouldnt accept it if it were them, no established club would accept it, so why should we?

2. amini is a class player. if he continues to play/ develop as he has been, he has every chance of a european contract soon enough.

3. in what sense did the mariners "shoot themselves in the foot"? we kept a cult hero and great up and coming player, whilst avoiding a total rip off.

4. how can farah say "what club would pay any more than $300,000 for an 18-year-old player, especially from Australia?" its that attitude which demeans football in this country.

. as a player's agent ... he just shot himself in the foot

. if he was genuine he would be telling musty what a great opportunity he now has:
12 months of first team football to show he is worth even more then sign a deal with no baggage and an enhanced reputation at home

. instead of trying to make 'quick and easy' money, maybe he should look at working a little harder ... for the benefit of everyone

. i don't know what the right answer is ... but it certainly is NOT $135k

Sounds to me like an agent looking after his own pockets .... I hope with all my heart that SBS come out guns blazing to support the club on Monday night...

Past history will indicate I am dreaming ... however SBS has preached this for years ...its now time to see if they will back an ANGLO club they don't like and the A-League in general...

Also Fairfax & Fox need to come out strongly and support the club as well..

Football needs to respond to articles like this in the mainstream press and we need the support of the local community rather than they see us as a bunch of bastards...

Will cost more than that to replace musty.

Any offer under 500k would leave us basically evens or losing money.

Musty should change agents before the next world cup to ensure he makes the right move and gets the best deal.

Taylor is an established writer who should check details like the minimum wage for an ALeague player is $45k and as he signed for 2 yrs there might be increase clauses in there,
Agent is not doing anyone a favor here and most of all himself as unless his clients are outstanding I think he will be given a wide berth.

That said if Musti is still on $45k then CCM are shooting themselves in the foot.
He should be made our junior marquee and signed to a longer term on a sliding scale from $120k.
If he is not worth $120k as the number 10 then we have the wrong player.

Bozanic is Youth Marquee. I'd say his pay will increase to be reflective of his contribution to the team. He was on $40k because he wasn't expected to play, which is understandable.

What I am saying is if he is the player we want as to,' have to do with' because he is here them pay him accordingly as he will entertain with the bonus of putting bums on seats.
And quiet frankly I can't see Bozanic (as good as he is) being able to generate anything like Musti can.

I think you're underestimating his quality then. Perhaps you should look at how well he keeps possession, the chances he assists and his work rate. There is a reason why he won the EPL reserves league with Reading and Musty didn't.

I sleep easier at night knowing The Terrorgraoh and I don't agree on things.

$135k = total crap for us and playing a bit of reserves in Dortmund = shit for Musty vs playing HAL where he will be loved and continue to learn to deal with pressure and crowds while he polishes his scoring potential... He is WAYYYY better off staying here for now. There was some VERY goo football being played in Australia last season... and the MARINERS - were one of the teams playing it - that is worth a lot in developing players.

I guess GA will be under significant pressure to play him as starting #10 over Pellegrino though. Suits me.

If I were Musty I would be looking for a new agent who appreciates and can value him accordingly. $135,000. I'd be telling them where to go too. Obviously Buddy Farah was after a quick sale and some easy cash. It is also insulting to every Australian player to suggest that we are not worth that much. What about the figures paid for Ruka, Oar etc - all around the $1 million mark.

The only problem is he is off contract at the end of this season. He will be a free agent then and we may get nothing for him.

I understand dortmund not offering more than they did as he only played 10-15 games last year and didnt play 90 minutes in any of them. I think 1 more year in the A-league would do him well. Maybe the Mariners should up his contract from $40k per year and extend it so they can get something when he does transfer.

Oh those greedy Mariners, wanting a fair price for their players!

As far as wages go, can't we just give him whatever Porcelain Perez would have been paid?
