Massive new TV Deal

It pushes it back one year. Id say that from the end of that deal, fta will get games
Good to renegoitate with more cash.

Definately need socceroos games on FTA so as to keep up their appeal, especially to youngster who cant go watch at clubs.

Nice one. One thing I'd like to see is not showing live games in the city the game is being played. Put it on delayed at 11pm+ or something.

Asked my mate to explain a bit more .. he is a hard man to catch... Below is his reply...

As you know Foxtel used to be one of my customers in my previous job and I bumped into my old boss on the weekend.

No figure mentioned but the FFA arent jumping at the first offer, like they did when they kicked off the A-League it was a jump of faith for both back then, but now they are in a better bargaining position.

Fox also sell the A-League games and highlights packages to other networks around the world and the Socceroos games like the Japan WC qualifier to foreign networks for a good price.

Fox are very reluctant to sell any football rights to FTA, since it gave them a big boost in new customers who had to get Foxtel to watch local football and they are making good money on football at the moment.

Ultimately, fox won't get the final say in regards to their most valued football product, the socceroos.

Seems likely that

HAL = Fox
Socceroos = FTA/Fox (as per Wallabies)

The only thing that might be different is FTA for HAL (1x game per week or highlights package)

Please let it be ABC taking Fox's feed

they're not going to have enough money.

it's got to be someone with cash. with digital multichannelling and ads during play (probably along the lines of those f**king annoying optus ads that are already on fox) it's perfectly feasible to run live football on FTA with no ad breaks. a sunday evening game and a highlights package on monday night (repeated, possibly several times, later in the week) is going to be the way to go.

You are right but I wish you werent.

God forbid they try and retrain some ex knuckledragger or the like to do the commentary. Unless its Foxtel feed and commentators, I will wait for the Fox replay later.

...........If its David Bashir, I will always turn the sound off

Interesting very interesting.the TerrOR restarting their Football Fever 8 centre page  liftout today..

Given the recent history you ask why remember the Timmy Cahill articles add all the negative World Cup articles especially from the Herald Sun (the dog are really off the leash down there like soccer hooligans will destroy Melbourne) .. In recent days even calling on the premier not to spend on the bid otherwise the AFL faithful will vote him out.

I commented a while back on the Timmy Cahill threads I believed that the TerrOR & SMH where in a fight to the death in Sydney.. Further smh got more and much larger adds for Socceroo matches than the TerrOR. Also smh seemed on the surface anyway to get better access to the Socceroos. Thus TerrOR not happy with FFA.

It would also appear to be without doubt that Fox and Football are in the advanced stages of contract negotiations.. Crowds have been disappointing this year we are coming into that time in the crowd cycle when numbers turn up.. An aside but not unimportant issue is many clubs are struggling with FFA under some strain and expansion in these conditions may be difficult .

So where does the TerrOR fit in all this if at all.. if crowds pick up will the TerrOR and other News outlets claim .. If not for us

My reading of the tea leafs is at three general levels, but all based around a battle more than likely to the death (assuming as I do in 20 years their will only be one paper in Sydney) for the newspaper that survives.

First a Sydney battle with the TerrOR saying look we came back on board and look crowds are up and if you sign with Fox things could get better

Second extent the Sydney battle to an Australia wide battle between News & Fairfax

Third to assist Fox in their attempt to have FFA sign a new agreement

What ever the reason I do not trust News one bit

interesting its back, it was a good thing but they ditched it
not sure of the reasons or if its to do with pressure from fox/tv deal/news ownership

News will f**k anyone over anything to secure Uncle Ruperts agenda.

In 20 years, I reckon Newspapers will be smaller specialist publications and the "Daily" will be a thing of the past.

I cant remember the last time I bought or even read a newspaper. Even if online content costs in the future, I would still prefer to get my news that way.

The Terror probably want to be the "official world cup paper" cheering on our boys rather than let Fairfax have a free reign.

Also, as Rupert prepares to dump NRL, he will need a new sport to bleed dry and corrupt. The Sky experience in the UK is the model to look forward too :piano:

I remember it first appeared about 4 years ago (6 months before WC), then they changed it a little bit to accomadate the WC during June, then it only last another 6 months before dissapearing (from memory). This might happen again.

Cashing in maybe?
